Nice. Favorite songs? (mine are Lowlife, Family of Fears, Underneath The Ivy Fields, You And Your Sainthood, and Canossa, but so many of them have grown on me big time, including Penmanship)
While the reverse chronological thing certainly works, I came up with a personal tracklist that I like even more for its sense of flow. I like to play it and pretend it's a brand new LP:
1. Lowlife
2. Underneath the Ivy Fields
3. Penmanship
4. Foundations
5. Scrapwood
6. Plane Song
7. Family of Fears
8. You and Your Sainthood
9. Careening
10. Antarctica in Color
11. Souvenirs
12. Canossa
Also, the band was kind enough to hook me up with their pre-2010 EPs and some of them have some seriously superb songwriting (despite the humble production)

For those curious on their pre-2010 albums - https://youtube.com/@Sergs9000
This page has “The Equator”! And “The Tongue-Cut Sparrow…”
The hunt continues for “Songs By and About Whales”
I keep coming back to this and Lowlife is a great opener. It wastes no time setting the tone and I’m wishing/hoping they’ve got more up their sleeves.
Top 3 for me currently:
1. You and Your Sainthood
2. Canossa
3. Lowlife

You and Your Sainthood is a great favorite selection. Honestly, all of these grew on me with repeated listens. This band always seems to do that :-)

Antarctica In Color (the song, not the album) is hot garbage but everything else on here ranges from good to absolutely transcendent. I like the Grandfather b-sides more than a couple of songs on the actual album.

Dang, hot garbage is a little harsh. I enjoy its bouncy playful strings but agree that it could have gone somewhere more interesting rather than sort of just floating by. I guess that's why it was unreleased!
I love both Grandfather b-sides. Not sure if I'd sub out any songs for them because I view that LP as essentially perfect, but I could work them into the tracklist and the album would remain perfect so that says a lot.

Both of the new tracks are fantastic which has me excited for any more new music that might come

Same. I'm especially partial to Lowlife though. Plane Song drags a tiny bit.

That's a good one. Upper 1/3 of the collection for me, but I still think Family of Fears is my favorite here.

Been away from sput for a while and almost shit my pants when i thought this was a new album and not just a compilation. It is a very good comp album tho and Plane Song must be one of my fav tracks of this year thus far. Needsless to say but nice review from Sowing (as always lol)

Yeah I know the hope is still for new new ToT, but this is still very nice. I actually think Lowlife is noticeably better than Plane Song but both are good. As for the old songs, they're all great. I still can't get over how much I've fallen in love with Family of Fears.

finally giving this a spin, it's... definitely nice. still feel like they had some magic on Grandfather that they never really recaptured, Ivy Fields is my easy favourite on here unsurprisingly
that being said what a man gotta do to get those early EPs sent his way

Still appreciating this release a ton. It may be mostly just for longtime fans, but all these b-sides are excellent.
