nice review, 'quarter of a decade' is quite the measurement method tho (did u mean century maybe haha?)

Billy has lost most of his respect in all of his business ventures at this point it probably is time to retire and focus on enjoying retirement and supporting Chicago.

Man there's just no excuse for how bad this project is. Doubly fucked that Corgan is cynically promoting it as a sequel to MCATIS when it has none of the songwriting, quality, or even the vague themes of that record, it's purely to drive up sales and trick fans into thinking they're back on their game when it's really just Billy writing solo records with the SP name on it. Garbage.

Despite that you will never convince me there is a Smashing Pumpkins album that isn’t a Corgan solo album.

I did mean century. Decade, I wish. Cheers Jesper, can’t believe I didn’t notice that. Fix’d

Jimmy has always pulled his weight and Billy definitely respects him and his playing. James and D'Arcy (realise she hasn't been around for decades) not so much.

I mean Jesus Christ, the last time they made a good album was Oceania a decade ago and even that was a lucky fluke. Almost fall asleep listening to this.

I'll always love the classic SP stuff, but post-reunion Billy is just the textbook definition of a sad washed-up has-been at this point

Totally agree every SP record is technically Billy solo, but he isn't shit without Jimmy Chamberlin or another creative foil inspiring him and getting good performances from him. Zeitgeist is still the best post-breakup SP because while the songwriting isn't always his A-game, the great riffs, music and esp Jimmy's insane drumming performance make up for a lot of the shortcomings. D'Arcy and James not so much on record, but D'Arcy also had a lot of veto power as the band's quality control / tastemaker, she'd tell Billy no. Seems like Jimmy & James are kinda just there now for the check / old feels

No Jimmy on Oceania and yet by all accounts, it's the best modern SP

God bless y'all that gave this a shot for no good reason, you're some real troopers.
Good review my man!

Oceania is definitely the best modern SP by a mile.
Cheers Mars, much love

I rated this pretty high with a 2.5 cuz it’s not the worst elevator music I’ve heard.

Nah, Zeitgeist is as good or better than Oceania. Oceania is definitely a great record but it's missing that edge and darkness. Zeitgeist has a lot more of the feel of the earlier Pumpkins that Oceania lacks, it nails the old school feel a bit better although Oceania does pretty admirably considering it was all fresh members. I go back and forth on them but Zeitgeist was very unfairly maligned when in hindsight it's aged much better in light of, well, everything since Oceania.

Oceania is better but Zeitgeist has grown a lot on me. Also Monuments is underrated. Honestly the reunion was alright until the actual reunion

The painful irony of the whole thing is that the brand of 90s alt-gaze rock that Smashing Pumpkins is known for doing is making a huge comeback *right now*
and Billy wants to make atrocious concept prog for off-Broadway or whatever this is
The boat is leaving Billy
