Mofo's sweet
I used to think Miami was weak but then I started listening to it all the way through a bit more and the part where Larry & Adam come in is, for lack of better words, SICK as FUCK

If I'm remembering right, so do I
That's the one where they through in the piano on the chorus like they had in the live versions, right? Loved that addition

Yeah there's a piano throughout the song, choruses included.

In my opinion, Pop is the last truly good U2 album before U2 was swallowed up into the formulaic "classic U2 sound" malaise they have exhibited since Atomic Bomb (it begins to creep in on ATYCLB, but at least it hadn't worn out its welcome yet in 2001). Pop isn't as consistently brilliant as Achtung Baby or Zooropa, but it's got enough in the tank to keep you interested from start to finish.
For me Pop's biggest failing is the lack of time they gave themselves (due to committing to a start date for the Popmart tour before the album was done) to really distill each song into its best form. The single mixes of Discotheque, If God Will Send His Angels, Last Night on Earth, and Please are all improvements on the album versions. Please in particular is elevated into the stratosphere with a new arrangement and sweeping strings, and to me it ranks among U2's absolute best. The menacing and aggressive way they performed Miami on the Popmart tour is superior to the very subdued form it takes on the album. Even the Best of 1990-2000 version of Gone is an improvement.
Also, like many albums in the CD era, the album suffers from an over-long run time. Everyone in the 90s felt like they needed to fill every byte of data on a CD so every album feels like it goes on forever. U2 could have easily chopped Playboy Mansion and possibly also Miami, which form a severe lull in the middle of the album and improved the overall listening experience.
I know there's a whole cottage industry critics have built around shitting on Pop since 1998, but even if you just listen to the original release and don't go all out and find all of the improved versions of the songs to assemble them into a version of Pop I'd like to imagine U2 would have released if they gave themselves another 6 months to work on it, the album has aged well and to me sounds better and more relevant today than it did 20 years ago.

One of the most underrated albums ever. This has some straight bangers. Discotheque, Last Night On Earth, Do You Feel Loved, and especially the absolute monster that is MOFO are fucking delicous.

Yeah discotheque is a quality tune

Discotech is phenomenal . Underrated ass song.

I think people were just sick to death of U2 by this point with all the holier than thou sanctimonious preaching and pretentiousness.
They could’ve released an absolute masterpiece (this certainly isn’t it) and it would’ve been slated.
The same pattern has followed for the last 25yrs.
