"also some of the versions of songs on the soundtrack are different to the album version."

yeah thats right, i remember being disappointed that they didnt have the guitar solo on Advice in the soundtrack version.

that solo is soooooo sick but i'm not sure that it's manabe playing it; doesn't sound like him at least.

oh yeah, the credits song isnt on any of those, i believe that was just a single.

both Ride on Shooting Star and I Think I Can aren't on any studio albums; they were on singles, the soundtracks, and some comps, though. both are phenomenal and Ride on Shooting Star is often an early favourite for people who discover the band through FLCL, so it's essential.

Please Mr. Lostman up to Happy Bivouac are the essentials, just start there.

and maybe even end there tbh, lol. a lot of their albums feel like filler, like theyre just going through the motions. although i will say that i think Trials lives up to those four albums. everything else is hit or miss though. Smile and Thank You My Twilight are ok.

i actually think smile is as good as runners high, and thank you my twilight is fairly subpar. unpopular opinion tbh, but smile is definitely worth checking out for its best songs.

this bands discog is overwhelming me tbh

as AC says, a lot of it is generally considered to be pretty average so just go for the classics and see if you feel like more afterward.

personally i'm a fanboy so i love almost all their albums even though i recognise many of them to be--for lack of a better term--"objectively" disappointing. key thing to understand about this band however is that while they don't have many truly great albums pretty much all of their releases have at least one fantastic song.

i love last dinosaur but eh it's not one of my all time favuorites. it's incredibly simple at the songwriting level so it has less of an impact after you've heard it a buncha times. the band has many far more interesting songs with far more staying power than LD.

my top would be:
1. Hybrid Rainbow (Little Busters)
2. Please Mr. Lostman (Please Mr. Lostman)
3. I Think I Can (single)
4. Trip Dancer (Please Mr. Lostman)
5. Konoyo no Hate Made (Smile)
6. Crazy Sunshine (Happy Bivouac)
7. Let's See If That's True or Not (Runners High)
8. No Self Control (Runners High)
9. Kanojo wa Kyou (Please Mr. Lostman)
10. Strange Chameleon (Please Mr. Lostman)

(my ranking is definitely affected by the live versions of those songs, as i have pretty much all of the band's DVDs and i prefer some of the live versions over the album versions)

i think my favourite track is Bran new Lovesong or One Life, but those are some damn good picks!
