The most classic band where almost all their albums I'd rate a 3
But they are a classic band

‘Elephant Riders’ would get a 3.5 maybe

Feeling a 2.5 on this. Not terrible but far from great. Not the album I'd show someone who wants to get into Clutch. Mountain of Bone, Skeletons on Mars, and Red Alert are my favorites. They've certainly been streamlining their sound since Earth Rocker but not in a good way, I like Clutch best when they're a little "off the walls".

I dunno, it seems the perfect amount of off the rails at times from my perspective. The one thing that does remain consistent is the tone. Tonally, I get a vague Dry Bone Valley by Mastodon vibe from a much of this album, like the whole album was recorded at night in a spooky desert. Like not quite as heavy as Mastodon obviously, but just that overall vibe.
Cohesively incohesive... this album is fantastic. Fits in Top 3 clutch for me personally.

the lyrics to "boss metal zone" have me so confused... what do blade runner and an iconic distortion pedal have in common? i frankly don't get it.

Clutch was better than average for a while. They started to drop off, for me, around Psychic Warfare.
