What makes spoken word a cheaper tactic than any other vocal delivery technique?

Doesn’t require melody. One of the hardest part of writing vocals is combining lyrics and melody in a cohesive and thematic way. So basically spoken word is removing half of the challenge. Lack of melody in vocals is indisputably less appealing sonically than with melody. Not saying spoken word doesn’t have its place but awareness of thematic context, variety and appeal need to be taken into account and I think they went a bit overboard here

"thematic context" okay but what about the context of having a cool sounding voice and saying interesting things in a cool dramatic way how about that

For 2 or 3 songs sure kompy, but for me it wears thin over the course of an entire album. If it doesn’t bother you than kudos

Band absolutey ruled live. I dont know how busch gets away with walking around in a circle speaking his lyrics and doing his little twinkle hands but it works.

Yeah his stage antics are definitely unique, and one-dimensional haha. Gets quite repetitive
