The Never Wanted That to We stretch is incredible, really happy with this and I still think he can do better. Hoping the new Black Queen is fantastic so the based Greg content can continue.

If any song was gonna make you bump it, that'd be the one.

Can't help but be reminded of Brent Hinds singing throughout this.

I wanted to like this more, but it's just not hitting any particular peaks for me, and when it's close, the way things play out makes me feel like there's space in the arrangement that's being wasted. Idk, just a first impression.

I think this has some great bigboy refrains, I guess if those don't really hit then the album as a whole won't have as many payoffs.

Given this a decent listen and am REALLY digging it. I liked his first solo effort, but this is a far more cohesive listen and really consolidates his position as a multi-skilled, solo artist. And his voice... jeez.

Awesome.

Was a fun experience for sure, plenty of hits. "Lowered" is an ideal rock song

i'm so impressed with this album. obviously was a big fan of his work with DEP but it's really cool to see how fully realized this is with him playing so many of the instruments. lots of little details, great riffs/solos, all very tasteful and never too "in your face."

best of all the songwriting is just totally on point. at the end of the day these are great songs and every single one is more than the sum of its parts.

really came out of nowhere for me, wasn't expecting to love it so much, i've been jamming it a ton.

His first record is kinda the same, just stylistically all over the place. This one is trimmed down and way more cohesive.

I really do wonder how much of the songwriting he did in Dillinger. I think it’s obvious the “poppier” songs were all pretty much just him, but it’s clear he can write heavier and more intense tracks.

Well, he did all the lyrics when he joined. I believe on the albums, that the majority of the music was made before his vocal input (quite common really), but they obviously played to his considerable vocal abilities. IIRC though, Ben Weinman didn't want him anywhere near the guitars, despite being able to play, keeping his role solely as frontman.

His solo stuff, I think caters to all of the creative ambitions he'd never have had the opportunity to achieve in DEP.

Surprised they didn't let him have any creative input, if that's true.

^ I think the insane technicality of the music was directly down to Ben and his vision. Even the second guitarists were effectively live musicians... I'm pretty sure he did all of the guitar parts in the studio.

Just going by standout bits of interviews I recall reading across the couple of decades I've been a fan.

Wouldn't surprise me, Ben is a wizard, but there was definitely some tension towards the end.

^ Yeah, Greg was very open about how tired he was of DEP, and especially by the time of the last tour he seemed to actively resent it... (something along the lines of "dragging around the corpse of Dillinger" in regards to that tour), and how he felt like he had been in a state of arrested development being in the band since his early twenties.

Absolutely loved the band, but they disbanded at the right time. Any hypothetical reunion or anything, would undermine their legacy, IMO.

They definitely did a number on their legacy when they decided to try their hand at NFTs lol

Mostly joking but that was a dumb moment in time.

Oh SHIT, you're right! Lol.

Yeah, that, for some reason, totally slipped my mind (probably getting a bit too rose-tinted about shit I enjoy). Dumb move for sure. I remember seeing that come and go on social media and was like, 'WTF?!', and hadn't seen or heard anything of it since.

Derpiness knows no bounds, unfortunately.

I mean, I think the world is collectively forgetting about NFTs lol, was a terrible idea from the jump but man they had some people fooled for a bit there.
