sowing how about you make that a 4.5, so i can chip in with the remaining 0.5 and we'll have the perfect score between us

well, i’m sorta leaning more towards YoYo’s rating more than most other people’s ratings so far

I will concede that I thought Eye In The Wall was pretty good, especially the percussion

From the moment I heard this I legitimately thought it'd be the kind of album that'd hold a 4.5 avg for a week and then eventually settle around a 4.2 or 4.3. This is no joke mind-blowing and probably my new AOTY at this point.

It's OK YoYo I'm just ribbing. I did think this would take the site by storm though. I know it hasn't stopped playing for me since it dropped. It's probably the most sure I've been of an insta-5 since mewithoutYou dropped Untitled four years ago.

oh yeah don't worry i know haha, To Pimp A Butterfly is still my only insta-5 to date

"Easiest 5 I've given out"
you give these out like candy :P I see more 5's from you than anyone on this site haha
Did a quick skim through the entire album. Sounds like some avant weirdness for the bulk of it. I could see throwing this on in the background to enjoy. Lots of cool sounding ambient sections.

I have too many insta-5's to remember, but about 50% of them I walk back to a 4.5 before its respective year comes to an end. I'm not proud of it, but I just get so excited. I can often tell even as I'm doing it though whether or not it will last. Example - Simple Math I knew was a real 5. Other times it's a strong 4.5 that I'm just trying to convince myself is perfect even though there's a moment here or there that I'm not quite vibing with. In this case, I'm pretty confident in the 5. It just has that intangible feeling - like an unstoppable force that I know will enthrall me for a long long time to come.

i’m about halfway through and it’s a 3, but the second half is pulling me in a bit more

I get subjectivity but damn just can't see getting even two songs into this and not having to pick my jaw up off the floor.

idk, i like the ideas but i never feel like they’re expanded on enough... it’s like there’s cool concepts of how to make a song grandiose, but then it jarringly goes into the next one

can't think of a single track (including the ones i don't care for) that doesn't offer a substantial development of whichever aesthetic-palette-mood
and the t/t is an awkward clash, but otherwise the sequencing here is butter smooth

Scherzo is the main one that comes to mind for me - it just feels completely directionless and unfinished

Album Rating: 3.9
Scherzo is certified not good yh but if anything it goes on too long. not sure expansion is the right crit there - needs an interesting contrast, as p much everything else brings to the table
|
| |
I liked Scherzo like
i don't know much about Perfume Genius but they clearly know their shit and I was excited to hear them flex something a bit atonal since most of the sung songs hop between two familiar chords
