The mix is indeed a reasonable gripe to have. Lotta extreme metal lacks bass these days unfortunately

Yeah the bass is a lot more audible on this album than previous albums by this band.

Speaking of bass, the bassist Alex also plays bass for Holy Fawn. Didn't realise that until recently.

Yup, and Alex is cool as hell! He brought me a free K-Shev shirt at a recent Holy Fawn + Deafheaven show when I mentioned I had outgrown the current shirt I owned at the time

This is pretty great, will have to check more. On first listen I feel like this suffers from the same problems as Epigone from earlier this year in that the subdued parts are really great but the heavy parts are relatively by the books

This has some real creativity and musical substance to it. I just cannot get over the production though. Usually I am not picky with this, but this sounds ear-gratingly awful to me.

It is very funny to see that my "very soft sound with some blast beat drums and occasional cookie monster vocals" comment went viral. Even a couple of Michael Jackson fanboys in this message board came forward to express their dislike of my comment. LOL.

You got me with the "viral" comment lmao. Hard to go viral when there are like 100 people who actually visit this old ass site

And I gotta check this still. I watch the singers youtube channel every once in a while and he seems like a decent dude.

This is pretty damn good music but hell do I not like the mix - drums horrendously overpower everything else & they don't even sound that good.

Oh well, maybe I should listen to this on earphones instead of proper gear...

the first album where they make the kick drum less clicky will automatically add at least 0.5 to the album average

that said, Apparitions in Candlelight is phenomenal

I would have 4.0d this if not for the mix... Not saying the last tho, might bump this one later, if it doesn't bother me that much on relistens.

First couple spins through and this isn't doing much for me at all. Feels like a lot of those songs never really go anywhere, like there is no punch or memorable part.

This album is incredible, but the sound of the drums is pretty distracting. I’m pretty certain they’re programmed and it’s not done very well. Am I alone here?
