Album Rating: 4.5
1. TPAB
2. MMATBS
3. GKMC
4. Damn.
5. Section 80
That is the ranking. This remains a stunning, bold record.
I think the argument that this is inconsistent is probably fair, but I also think the hooks on the lesser songs really open up and breath on repeated listens and overall the songs build up to the climaxes of each side pretty effectively. United in Grief and Crown get a pretty bad rap in this review, being two really well-conceived uniquely impactful songs. Auntie Diaries remains as problematic as it is profound, and really, for all its violations, it's probably also the best example of this record's commitment to being beautifully, honestly flawed.
It's probably hard being declared the most important artist of a generation, everyone just expects Kendrick to shit gold, but this record came out of the gate bruised and battered, and therein lies the magic of it.

This is such a good review. I feel like I agree with you on almost everything, but I guess I wasn't as bothered by some of the gripes you had... E.g. I found Crown's lack of development until the very end a +, but found Auntie Diaries to drag a bit like you said

"the sooner that people accept this is better than GKMC the better off we as a society will be"
LOL This never will go down as a better record than gkmc or tpab in the hiphop community. Not a million years lol. By a few nerd sputnik teenagers maybe but your opinion is invalid.

Most of the time Kodak talks on this, it sounds like he recently took a roundhouse-kick to the throat is still relearning how to speak

Kendrick loves Jay z. Tell him that To. Once again you sound dumb.

I can tell this is a great review when just about everything said I agree with, but still come away with a far different opinion/score overall. I think it encapsulates my initial frustrations with the album (underwhelming instrumentals, lack of climaxes) which eventually turned into some of the album’s strengths in my eyes

Jay z is the linkin park of hip hop, it’s no coincidence they have that mash up album

Cool minority opinions about Jay. This album will be debated against section 80 and damn. Once mfs start debating it against tpab or gkmc your just going to get weird looks and laughed at. Thats Nonsense good sir
