Citing user avg’s as a way to say you shouldn't compare two albums is a little silly. This and GKMC are both like 9/10’s for me so Ima compare the hell out of them lol

I think this album is as big and important as gkmc in terms of its themes of kendricks salvation. This one is just more philosophical when gkmc is more spiritual.

I listened to this again to give it another chance and just felt like rating it lower afterwards. I genuinely feel like people have been too blinded by his aura to be discerning about his music for the last few years.

I understand why this album is divisive. I think it's really, really good.

million, as someone who doesn't watch award shows, rarely if ever listens to current interviews, and doesn't give a fuck about charts/clout/aura/beefs/whatever and just listens to the music, I heavily disagree with your take

i don't think this is a sput problem necessarily but i think the discourse surrounding this album changed a lot after drake and cole both called it a flop in their diss tracks. even though reception was pretty lukewarm upon release (by kendrick standards) it really felt like the internet at large suddenly wrapped their arms around it in response to how asinine of a diss that was coming from them.

this, but it's his GKMC/TPAB aura that seems to make it difficult for people to hear what's going on in his projects since... ; )

i'm glazing. ik.

I still think it’s a good record but it’s one of those things that just gives me this weird sense of nausea, like it just made me feel old as shit and I probably won’t give it another listen

Which is really weird because I don’t have that feeling at all with GKMC or TPAB, maybe it’s just because it really has not aged well.

but this is still so much better than section 80 imo man, and damn for that matter

“but i think the discourse surrounding this album changed a lot after drake and cole both called it a flop in their diss tracks.“

Pair of fuckin clowns tho, I haven’t listened to later drake outside of some singles but this is better than anything by either of them tbh
