I actually think The Altar is one of the best cuts here

half of altar is silverstein shooting for the 'no frame' atmosphere and v muchly missing the mark, the other half is good hevvy stein
|

feels like there are a lot of great moments on this thing overshadowed by questionable moments

Can't bring myself to listen to this, respect for yall

The Altar starts off great and I'm starting to understand that Silverstein isn't throwing out the past, but like it's morphing. And all we hear is the unstable part when morphing. Some people love it and some people hate it.

Our song I hate it; It's Over, Bankrupt, Live like this I dislike them. I put my expectations damn low though. Most likely because this album is heavier, I get the relief.
I love metalcore boyband-ish songs like Don't Wait Up. That's bad taste I cannot help it.

Die Alone, Don't Wait Up, and half of The Altar rules, everything else is either mind numbingly boring or outright terrible (Our Song, Slow Motion) with a few moments of brilliance sprinkled into the latter half of this.

jesper's review is accurate. songwriting is improved. anyway, I'm grateful to them for releasing this record and giving me something to look forward to in my life. they are still my favorite band.

After giving Paul Marc some time to develop in the band and writing his own guitar parts, it has become clear that he just doesn't compare to the riffs and atmosphere that Neil Boshart brought to the band. Ever since the departure the band has moved more into a modern alternative power chord rock group where the only thing keeping it somewhat edgy is Shane screaming and some punch lines. Shane can only do so much with a track that lacks uniqueness.

hmm, not sure i fully agree trentist, always felt like paul marc reinvigorated the band and defined some of wind/alive's best moments.. ever since dead reflection he hasn't been pulling his weight tho

don't know how much Paul Marc's actually involved in creating. have the impression he wants to sing. edit: I have heard that he wrote all the songs on the new album that I hate. I don't know what does "wrote" mean

because Neil left unexplained. I still remember that band declaring was weird and cold-blooded. yea I am still mad at it. never really accepted Paul Marc. his technique is undoubtable. unfortunately cannot really sing.
edit: his work on This Is How The Wind Shifts is amazing! a perfect one. Then I got tired of it in I Am Alive already

Wind Shifts will forever be the best Stein album.

“Wind Shifts will forever be the best Stein album.” yes
We usually think of Dead Reflection as the time they went downhill and the change in style could easily explain this. Instead, I think the band actually showed decay on I Am Alive already.

Yeah I didn't care for Dead Reflection much. Few bangers but definitely the start of their decline.
Shipwreck in the Sand is super underrated imo

can these guys just hang it up already

rescue for most underrated stein and top 3 behind wind shifts and dtw
shipwreck was my fav in high school not rlly sure why but its still solid. too long but got a handful of rlly good songs. lowk feel like this band was more of a "songs" band for me more than they were an "albums" band back when they were good
