nice norma, i’m feeling a 4.5 in the near future as well.
i don’t really follow country music awards, but i imagine this has gotta be at least a nominee?

There's only a few true standouts for me here, but the album is just so consistent that the rest aren't that far away

enjoy this and most of what he's done but i kinda wish this was... weirder? idk. it's a pleasant listen but it feels a little safe to me. felt like "pony" had more adventurous stuff on it but idk

I agree. Instead of taking the genre into the future it sort of feels like he's meeting it in the middle. There's nothing wrong with that, though.

Haven't listened to any of Orville's work yet, but this review is definitely convincing me that I should. I'll give this a listen over the weekend and see what happens... after all, I've been on a bit of a country kick recently

So yeah I'm still loving this, but I think he could have cut 3-4 tracks and this would be better off. Not sure which ones. That first volume of this he released has some of the best tracks

because it was always a 4.5, but I believe that all 4.5s should be 5s for at least 5 days. if I don't truly believe that they have what it takes to be a 5 for just 5 days then they shouldn't be a 4.5 either

C'mon Baby Cry has been one of my songs of the year so far. The album itself is excellent through and through, it's been pretty cool to witness Orville Peck's musical journey.

“C’mon Baby Cry” is wonderful but pretty middle of the pack here imo, idk why everyone is raving so much about that one in particular. Similar thing with “Let Me Drown” - Mathias called that an ‘80s power ballad and it essentially is but like, not in a good way? Maybe it’ll grow on me but for now I’m not convinced by that one, way too cheesy and put-on feeling. But aside from that at this point I think pretty much every song is great, this is super consistent.

Pitchfork saying he sounds a bit like an Elvis impersonator (aka a ‘club singer’) is below the belt…but also, yeah, a bit of that
