"That's kind of the frustrating thing about WATG. I always get the feeling they're right on the brink of something special. There's definitely glimpses here and there of it."

Hard agree. They never quite scratch the itch for me. Also agree with Em that this is p on the nose

Overall, I agree with y'all. I will say, that after the first listen, I was definitely in the underwhelmed category, but after 2 more listens through, I'm liking this one a lot more. Definitely a grower a bit.

VxV and Types and Shadows are definitely the high point for me as well. I know it's silly, and Silent Anthem is definitely a great song, but I couldn't help but be a little disappointed that the closer wasn't more along the vibes of the closers of all 4 of their previous records, which I would say are all top songs off each...

Give this album a couple more chances, I think it'll grow on the rest of you like it's been growing on me. That said, it's definitely not my favorite of theirs.

Also, I'm pretty sure they considered Lowborn a Christmas song/single like "The King" they released years ago...

yeah Lowborn was a Christmas single so it was very unlikely it was gonna be on the album in the first place

was still a banger track though

Gotcha, that makes sense. Hot take: Cobucci has the perfect voice for this type of music.

This one has been a grower. I do agree that a couple of the songs could have been cut, but its actually a pretty decent album. Steve`s vocals and melodies are always solid. VxV is not bad, but I always felt that Types and Shadows was where everything clicked.

Ryan and Tdunn: What are your favorite songs on here? Mine are "Lights & Fire", "Eulogies", and "Out of Sight" at any given moment. These guys know how to write a chorus.

Thanks, Jay! I really recommend it. I’d say check out “Lights & Fire” and “Eulogies” and see if those make an impression on you. Let me know what you think if you check it out!

Teal, I really like Embracing Accusation, a great cover song, and silent anthem. No tomorrow is also pretty fun.

These guys always put out solid covers. One of the highlights here for sure. All three of the ones you mentioned are actually some of my favorites.

Agreed, great picks. They wrap up the album powerfully with those two songs.

Good review! I remember intending to check this band out after their previous LP, and I never did. Maybe I'll get around to it eventually this year...

Haha, one of the guys over at JesusfreakHideout was really all over those last two. Second listen really made them stick out. This is not a bad album by any stretch.

@Teal - At the moment, I really like Lights & Fire and Eulogies as well. But since I put this cd into the car (yeah, I still buy those cuz my car only has just that) and have just left it in, almost every song has grown on me. I don't think I would even cut 3 of the songs like you mentioned. I see your point about making the album a little more concise, but it's not really too long even with those songs, in my opinion. Like many have pointed out, the last two songs are great, but even the two before, White Flag and Out of Sight (like you mentioned) are great melodic songs with great choruses.

I *might* bump my rating of this to a 4...

Good picks, Ryan! Yeah, I was torn to criticize the fact that there are thirteen songs on here. I’m not trying to knock their generosity, but the three songs I mentioned just didn’t make me feel anything like the others did.

Thanks, Sowing! Collectively, this isn’t a classic by any means, but you might find a few playlist staples in here.

Also, I take it back, Embracing Accusation is the standout track here for me. It just clicked and I listened to it five times back to back.

First time through I didn't even catch that it was a cover since it was so different from the original (which I love, but hadn't heard in a few years). Executed beautifully though.
