kinda baffled at the idea that anyone thinks of this band as a particularly heavy dxc band. The vocalist can gurgle but their music has always been on the lighter end of the deathcore scale.

I mean they're immensely melodic for sure

I think that both intensity and heaviness tend to be globbed together, in which case they certainly own intensity.

Pretty good though I worry another album like this will border on stale for me

this was actually pretty surprising, like this more than pretty much any of their other stuff, melancholy was great though too, also I hear the most minimal amount of deathcore on here

The cover is neither good nor bad, but I've always had an issue with their band logo and it's bugging me more on this album than the previous one. The yellow/black with that font choice just doesn't look good. The logo is already placed in the sky of the picture where there's enough white and yellow anyway

Thanks oct you sweet sweet goon

Also idk the logo makes sense to me. The colors mend with the rest of the album artwork, albeit the album artwork itself is nothing too impressive. I think we've been spoiled by the immense level of talent on metal covers these days lol

I think you're right, seen too many good album covers last year alone

The album cover is appropriately similar in quality to the music contained within, which in a nutshell is all I would ever ask.

Informative.

is 2022 the year of deathcore's triumphant return? That featured Bandcamp track is very theatrical sounding, way too overproduced but I guess that's what the people want these days.

Well 2021 was the year death metal wreaked havoc, so it's only fair that a distant cousin try to do the same this year

I think deathcore has been on a massive upswing these last 3 or 4 years tbh. The fact that something once viewed as totally degenerate can be appreciated without the word "deathcore" clouding ones mind is actually incredible imo

Oh for sure brother, I guess these last few deathcore releases have just excited me because I feel like the genre as finally evolved into something meaningful.

In any case, a band in even the silliest of circles can rule if they know how to own the concepts they push for

this seems okay. basically easy listening as this genre goes, melodic and cinematic. the guitar leads are pretty boring and basic though as far as more techy bands in the deathcore/dm genres go

I personally like the more "basic" composition in Shadow of Intent. The way they blend that more "metalcore" way of writing with the melodeath vibe makes them have their own sound.

Is this still Halo-core or have they steered away from that lore?
