Not sure to whom you're talking but I am aware of the controversial nature of that phrase in German. Not that it was splayed across a conc camp entrance, specifically, but I knew/know it was taboo simply because I spent just over 10 years working closely with Germans (auto industry) and learned a thing or two about their culture. Though it is my understanding that phrase more literally translates to something like 'you get what you deserve' in German and is not as blithely idiomatic as it has become in the US.

In any case I'm not sure how that is totally relevant to the conversation at hand. I generally agree these sorts of 'issues' are everywhere and can be quite problematic. I don't think I've tried to argue otherwise. But if I don't at least momentarily disconnect myself from it amid one of the few things that's supposed to bring me enjoyment, I'm not sure I'd be able to enjoy anything in the world. My entire country was formed and built from imperialist wars and slavery. Everything is fucked. You can trace almost anything back to unsavory origins. I try to be a good person. I don't always succeed. I try harder tomorrow. 🤷‍♂️

"Not sure to whom you're talking"

To the user who said it :P As mentioned, I'm assuming ven wasn't aware of that specific context. My unsolicited info dump wasn't relevant to the discussion at hand, no, but merely meant to illustrate the irony of using that particular turn of expression.

Also, the German phrase is used as an idiom with the same meaning it has in English-speaking countries, but does also translate to what you said. Just leaves a certain aftertaste once you know about its historical meaning, which sadly not everyone living here does. Personally haven't used it in forever.

I haven't been arguing against your stance on the matter at all. Climactic made a good point, though.

Everyone is morally bankrupt, and some people alleviate this existential burden by proclaiming moral superiority over certain artists.

I just listened to Peste Noire to re-check my moral compass and that shit is nasty but in a good way

…but shall we get back to exerting our supremacy in the form of these riffs instead? I’ve heard they may be indecipherable to the unworthy
