Okay I hate to shit on this one again, but I will — new one absolutely destroys this and in comparison I struggle even more to see what everyone seems to see in it, they were so capable of making something awesome and they did it again, never trust a mastodon album without colourful cover art, that’s all I’m saying.

Lol. This is great idk I love the more chilled vibe of this album it hits pretty hard front to back lotta great tracks. But yeah new one is fucking monumental after 2 spins it's already like top tier mastodon for me which is saying alot. The boys can do no wrong

Dude, I’m actually back on this too lol. I feel I never gave it a real fair shake, due to not loving it immediately, life being busy and shitty at the time, and just being so long. More than you could chew was really the only song that stuck with me.



But been alternating between this and Marrow, and this shit is growing on me a lot. But again, the final 3 tracks are incredible and amongst their best songs. That last 20 and change minutes are the 5ist of 5s.

but hate to burst your bubble larkin, thing is i relistened to this after being on a marrow binge since i saw your comments, and esp the last 3 songs. i found gigantium to be among their most boring songs overall, if it weren't for Brent who brings it home with the epic solo. in any case, i found comparing the last 3 songs of this to the last 3 of marrow akin to comparing stuff from Peace Sells with stuff from Endgame. I like Endgame, don't get me wrong, but there's levels to this shit, and Marrow may prove to be a classic

Daaaamn. Well, at least we can agree on the epic solo. But I think Gigantium is incredible. Doesn’t top Eyes of Serpents or More than you could chew, but it’s pro my 3rd favorite track here.

Gigantium is decent but the "my love" part is waaay too on the nose. I get what they were going for but it really just falls flat. Overall I don't see why people love it so much.

I hear you on that point. I don’t know, it’s just an emotionally sweeping song. Hits hard. The final third/guitar solo is what really brings it home though, without that it’s just a pretty good.



I also think it works better if you’re going into directly after Eyes of Serpents vs as a standalone.

bumped it up, i do think i gave it an unfair wrap when it came out because of the bloatedness. now that they've released a fucking amazing record i can appreciate this a bit more for what it was. a bunch of good songs that honestly don't work very well when clumped together, but there are still some undeniable bangers on here. I can see why live it would work well when you don't have to listen to songs exclusively from this record and to several songs in a row.
