I think Coffins is my favorite since their first two, but it’s very close with Hubardo.

Surprised you don't dig this, Talons.
It's quite impenetrable/hectic though, even by KD standards.

I only gave this one listen while doing work and it felt very convoluted.
But good, and weird, idk.

I'd love to show this band to my friends, the reactions would be priceless.

The whole thing gets too stuck in this meandering death/doom swampiness for me, the opener especially is a slog. Like The Black Stone all over again. But after that probably like a 3/5 album, I don't think it's bad or anything.

opener is the song the Black Stone should have been, far stronger atmospheric piece with far more momentum from the onset. instant palette cleanser from the entirety of Blasphemy

Blasphemy was very fun in a hilariously bad type way
Honestly a bit initimidated to listen to this one lol, soon enough

I'll give it to The Knight Errant that it's better than The Black Stone and a bit more atmospheric. But at least Blasphemy has some personality and that great seafaring atmosphere to it, for all its flaws.

Sad that Blasphemy seems to be so disliked, I absolutely love it. I personally dig The Black Stone composition a lot, just Byron's vocals are a bit weak, but still weirdly fitting. The Knight Errant kicks ass. Love this album as a whole, biggest complaint is that it sometimes blends together, but that could change in time as I better recognize each song. Void in Virgo is obviously the odd man out on this LP, but absolutely gorgeous. While I enjoy the unique sound of The Necklace, it still hasn't completely grown on me quite yet, actually, my least favorite song on the album, but I think this album is brilliant, so it's least favorite on a collection of incredible work. My expectations for this were extremely high and I wouldn't say they were reached, but I was also expecting a more diverse, maudlin-esque album with more whimsical passages and varied instrumentation. Definitely more metal than I assumed it would end up. I think this is maudlin in the nature of goth/doom influences, but not quite in sound. Strong 8 to light 9

I loved the opener, honestly. It got especially good in the latter half, but I don't mind a song that takes some warming up. How can you say this album lacks personality compared to Blasphemy? Every thing Toby has ever touched has some unique, interesting quality to it. This is no exception. This is brimming with forest occult fantasy metal haha.

Yeah this has personality; just a different kind than what I would look for, a vibe killer for me with how heavy it is, and most of the vocals too. I would like this and Blasphemy more if they were more instrumental.
Everyone's gonna have varied opinions given how different each album is, and I'll always respect the band for how daring and innovative they are. I get that every KD album is its own thing, with lots of craft and artistry going into each one. I try to go into a new release each time with a completely open mind.

From all the albums released yesterday this stands my favorite. I don't know where this will be in a few months but right now it's top 3 KD for me

If anybody is interested, Greg Massi just put out a podcast with him, Toby and Jason Byron where they go into some of the intention behind this album along with some interesting motW speak. It's called "The Color of Air" and it's the most recent episode.
Really cool to see three friends shooting the shit and talking about this absolute beast of an album too.

It is true that Kayo Dot almost never has "proper" screams or growls anywhere. Get out of the Tower may be the closest to an exception.
But I'm a bit confused about why this bothers people now and didn't bother people with Choirs.
Also I think it largely stops being a problem if you get rid of the idea that vocals have to sound a certain way. Just take them for what they are.
