@neek - Agreed, that was what drew me to this in the first place. It was a totally random "surfing iTunes" find and in this case I'm glad I judged the album by its cover!

@Lassie - Glad you're digging! I usually don't go for pop EPs but this is just too pretty.

Yes agreed! Maybe a good thing it is a short and sweet EP, because this sound may not have worked on a LP, but i may be wrong about that

Kayla is def my fav from this. Cant stop listening to that one!

In order to make this a full length there'd need to be more instrumental diversity. As it is, 5-6 songs is pushing the max attention span for consecutive acoustic/string ballads. His voice just happens to be good enough to deliver upon such a basic canvas, so everything is perfectly fine as-is, but I'm curious where he'll go from here.

Couldn't have said it better. "Gorgeously uncomplicated" would have made a nice review summary.

Same. It's a quick & pleasant listen, too easy to keep in the rotation. Will prob end up one of my top 5 EPs this year.

The Pool is basically the quintessential "romantic pop ballad" and I love everything about it

It's very consistent. Nothing groundbreaking, but if you want easily accessible romance then this is king.

Haha, yeah I suppose that helps. I always found music like this hits just as hard when you're pining after someone and feeling the pain of uncertainty or rejection though. 2011 me would have worn these songs out while night driving under the stars and contemplating my failed relationships.

I have certainly done my share of that before and a bit this year too haha!

Luckily nothing so bad that it would make these songs unbearable to listen to later on because of memories of lost love etc

I love stuff that drudges up painful memories. It's like the music preserves it, and when you listen years later the pain is just as fresh. There's a certain magic to that, even if you have to be something of a masochist to enjoy it.

it is a love hate thing for sure! I certainly have that kind of relationship with a lot of Radiohead, Jimmy Eat World and The National etc. The good thing is that with time bringing those memories back makes one learn from them instead of just experiencing the initial pain if that makes sense

Apparently this dude made it big and I only just realized. He has a single with 647 million streams. His new songs (Only Girl, Evangeline) are great, hopefully a new LP is on the way.
