Just fyi, you use the phrase "damn near" twice in your third paragraph. Otherwise this review is how I feel about the album as well. The ending of "Infinite Josh" doesn't really go anywhere, but besides that it's pretty good.

dug this on first listen and it's only grown. I've had diminishing returns with the band after Whenever If Ever but this completely re-demanded my attention. Hyperbole doesn't even begin to convey how massive the final two tracks here are

Album is simply incredible. Almost certainly my AOTY. It’s a testament to the writing and artistry that something with this much overtly political lyrics doesn’t come across at all corny. It’s a delicate balance, you might say. Anyways there’s so much here to love I keep hearing a new riff or detail on each repeated listen, it’s only growing on me.

Praise aside, is there any other band who references themselves and says their own band name more than this one lol?

This blew me away but after 3 or 4 listens some weaknesses are starting to make themselves apparent.

I think the difference between these longer tracks and previous ones is that the others had more pronounced builds/climaxes where I find myself in more of a hypnotic state for Infinite Josh/Fewer Afraid which I can't say is something I prefer overall but it is still pulled off almost perfectly and I definitely still love both of these tracks

I don't often try to listen to tracks above the 12 minute mark on the regular but I can see these 2 becoming the exception

i kinda miss the straighter, sadder post-rock emo roots but this prog shit is much more engaging for sure

Man was just jamming Rage Against the Dying of the Light by these guys and this popped up. What a change in sound. I like both but this takes some time to fully land.

I don't find this that dissimilar to their past 2 tbh. everything different still feels like a logical extension.

"both surprising and obvious" was seriously a brilliant way to put it Xeno
