I tried to find some information on this painting on the cover but could not find any. Don't know if comissioned for the band or just an older painting with no copyright on it.

I'm very curious about it too as it's one of my favorite covers of the year. Let me know if you figure it out.

Lovely review, Sowing. Really looking forward to giving this album/artist a first spin, seeing as I enjoy all of the references to others that you made here.

The painting on the album cover? I was wondering if it was painted by Bruegel the Elder as he gets the name drop in Be At Rest

From my admitted limited research it seems a similar style

Not many better album openers than this one in 2021

Artwork gives me some mewithoutYou “ten stories” vibes, so by that alone I’m all in haha

Re: Album artwork the credits on their bandcamp page say it's by an unknown artist - not sure if that means they don't know who it is or if the museum housing it doesn't either. Intriguing, regardless:

All songs written by Ian Felice and James Felice (BMI)

Cover Painting, “Winter Sunday In Norway Maine,” by an unknown artist is used courtesy of Fenimore Museum in Cooperstown, NY.

Jazz On the Autobahn might be my favorite opener of 2021 as well @Chan.

I could see mwY @Nbehre11 but I feel like it needs more animals to fit their style, ha.

Ok just found the link on the museum's website, it's definitely a painting with an unknown creator: http://collections.fenimoreartmuseum.org/winter-sunday-in-norway-maine

The picture is called "Winter Sunday In Norway Maine" and it is from 1860.

‘creator unknown’ seems fitting enough, cover is perfect

Think this is settling at a strong 4 rating, a few songs are in ‘just very good’ territory rather than blowing me away

Sensing some big Arlo Guthrie influence here, especially on Valium.

The only Arlo Guthrie song I've heard is Alice’s Restaurant, but the vocal vibes and even some of the humor were too closely tied for me not to list it in the recommended by reviewer section.

I'm glad this album came through for you Jeremiah, there's no feeling quite like discovering a new band you enjoy.

"Creator Unknown" @Doof I wonder and don't entirely doubt that was intentional, considering some of the lyrics here which weigh the presence or absence of a god. Very interesting indeed.

Oh didn’t even see you listed it there! Perfect. You truly are an encyclopedia. Yes that’s the exact album (song, really) that the vocalist reminded me of.

Sweet deal, I can see Don McLean too - even more so in the storytelling than the vocals themselves...surprised I didn't think of that myself. Good catch with that comparison.
