Band has lost it's magic. 'Pandering' is right, its exactly how I felt about a lot of the songs on HLAG, contrived sterile melancholy. Its incredibly disheartening as I adore so much of their work.

I dislike it immensely. Its so boring and sounds like Omnium Gatherum, which is a subpar product compared to what Insomnium is capable of.

I keep playing this, and getting more out of it. None are as good as everything on Heart Like a Grave but even so I like current day Insomnium

STDIACD is my favorite followed by ATWW, and I pretty much ignore most of their discog up to Winters Gate, but Heart Like a Grave somehow won me over and this was a cool exploration in their more acoustic side. Curious how they'll follow up HLAG though.

I'm digging this quite a bit actually

this really is the perfect length for this more restrained approach

Doesn't suck, but it isn't that good either. Unlike their other EPs, this doesn't sound like an Insomnium record. I doubt I would've even recognized them without the track labels. Sure, most bands lose a little fire 20 years into their existence, but I hope this isn't the case with these guys considering how magnificent their last three full-lengths were.

So, why did they add a third guitarist?

"In 2018 it became apparent that Ville could not combine the heavy touring anymore with his another career as a lecturer in York university. Hence, we decided that a third guitarist was needed to get the machinery running properly. We did not have to look far, since Jani Liimatainen had already been a live guitarist on several tours. And since this dude is amazing musician, vocalist, songwriter and all-round nice guy the decision was really a no-brainer. Now we are stronger than ever!"

it also explained the change in songwriting focus in ville's absence.

This band really hasn't been interesting since STDIACD honestly. AtWW has good moments though

In my opinion, Insomnium is the kind of band that can do no wrong.

They parked the riffs for a moody sojourn. Perfectly captured by the album cover
