not sure if i'm gonna bump this down or not, but it sure as hell isn't getting any higher rating.

also, matt chamberlain does amazing drum sections on this...when they actually appear, once in a blue moon.

Lorde detached from the internet, presumably much to her mental benefit, which led to a pretty big snooze of an album.

Here's the real question. Does being mentally healthy detract from your ability to make compelling music? Or is it that music made by mentally healthy people just isn't appealing based on current tastes?

well, kate bush made one of her best albums in blissful domesticity (aerial) and probably her weakest during a very tragic time in her life (red shoes)

then again, it's kate bush

I think the best art is derived from suffering, be it emotional or literal. That said, I'm not certain that this should be read into beyond a young pop superstar having her first misfire. It had to happen eventually, and nothing she ever did was going to live up to Melodrama anyway, so I suppose this is a decent time for it to occur.

This album sucks so much that I had to demote melodrama from a 5 to a 4.

why do people act like Melodrama is untoppable? lmao

I'm certain she'll make even better records eventually, obviously this ain't it

The thing is tho, all future records will suffer as a result of this album existing. Any record going forward will autonatically default to a 2.5, which leaves melodrama at a very comfortable 4
