It's a gorgeous tune, indeed one of the best here.

While I love the whole album, it peaks at the first track. I’ve probably listened to west hills twice as much as any other song

west hills is great but im not sure its even in my top 5. i do love it tho moreso speaks for how strong this whole thing is
desperate things is 1000% undoubtably the peak of this for me

Funny, I would put desperate things in my bottom 5. Still a great song, but not among my favorites

Ok so here’s my (likely) controversial ranking:
1. West Hills
2. Quiet Town
3. Pressure Machine
4. In Another Life
5. The Getting By
6. Cody
7. Runaway Horses
8. Desperate Things
9. Sleepwalker
10. In the Car Outside
11. Terrible Thing
Oof having to put something in last place was painful. Whole album is beautiful.

its not really like a pleasant song to listen to or anything but nothing fuckin gives me that visceral feeling of dread and horror the way it does when i hit that final verse
otherwise my favs here are prob the getting by, in another life, quiet town and sleepwalker. runaway horses def my least fav id prob 5 this otherwise

If you move in the car outside up to #5, I think you nailed the top 4.

In Another Life should be a staple song for their live performances, surprised that song didn't take off from this.

I need to revisit this

It might have to do with the fact that they never gave this album any attention live.
According to setlist FM:
in 2021 11.6% of their setlist songs were off this
in 2022 5.4%
and in 2023 5%
They have played tracks from this 133 times ... 50 of which were Runaway Horses and 25 times playing Cody. In Another Life and The Getting By have only been played live 7 times. They have only played West Hills ONCE ever.

People don't like good music

in all fairness to them like how tf would these songs fit into an average killers setlist. maybe they could have done a stripped back run in promotion of this material but itd stick out otherwise
not like im a fan of the choice tho since i think this unquestionably smokes everything else they have ever done

Just play the entire album as the setlist then do a few fan favorites as an encore

Agreed. And I mean. It’s pretty standard to tour off a new album and have a set list more centered around that new release. Didn’t seem like they ever really did that, despite the great critical reception

I understand that their goal at shows is to please fans who are traveling and spending a lot of money to see them. I think this is the kind of album where you do a smaller tour, perhaps at slightly more intimate venues, and announce that it will be a "Pressure Machine" tour so that fans can set their expectations accordingly.
To virtually ignore this album live is a crime.

The general converse from fans (when this first dropped) was that the album was boring and their worst album. Obviously they're wrong, but seemed like a common criticism from their fanbase. That and the lower stream numbers could've reflected how much of this is played live, sadly.

They totally need to do a pressure machine tour that only visits small/mid sized towns. It would be perfect.

Bands should tour playing their new material, at least on a smaller scale agreed
