Why don't they just give up. Old people and bands just want to keep on living even though they no longer have a fire inside. Maybe they should just get on the drugs.. The whole straight edge thing clearly gets a little boring after a while.

Only Davey and Jade are straight edge iirc. Adam isn't, and neither is Hunter. Hunter is vegan, though. There's an interview with AFI where they're all sitting around a table, and Adam is having a beer. Hunter is all about the caffeine. He loves his coffee. Pretty sure Adam is the only one that's not vegan or edge.

1. Twisted Tongues
2. Far Too Near
3. Looking Tragic
4. Escape From Los Angeles
5. On Your Back
6. Back From The Flesh
7. Begging For Trouble
8. Death Of The Party
9. Dulceria
10. No Eyes
11. Tied To A Tree
I feel like this track list flows a bit better than the original. Biggest change is moving Looking Tragic to the front half of the album and moving Dulceria to the back half.

Davey definitely drinks coffee. the not ridiculous edge's don't care about caffeine lol
more importantly, will gladly try that order Light. I think getting Dulceria in the back and Looking Tragic in the front makes a lot of sense. idk if i like Begging For Trouble after Back From The Flesh buuuuuut I do like Back From The Flesh perfectly in the middle.

Oh cool - I like track list reorders. I don't always agree the band gets it right haha. The stretch that was Back From Flesh -> Death of the Party is a bit dull for me. Might be able to appreciate Death more in this context. I'll try that out, Light.

great first page. listened to the singles and the first song rn while i was poopin and it’s just shallow and lifeless. not bad in any sense, just formulaic and dull. Davey still sounds amazing tho

for as much as i say the songs could be fleshed out writing wise, the instrumentation here is, of course, fire throughout.

My only complaint about the album is its brevity and perhaps as a result, it doesn't feel like it takes you on much of a journey, even though each individual track is fire. Might play around with fleshing out the tracklist with songs from The Missing Man.

How is this any different from Dreamcar?

@light
It's not about aggressiveness. This shit is just bland and uninspired. I remember songs like "too late for gods" being amazing without having to be heavy or aggressive.
AFI are not good at pulling this kind of music, period. We have The Cure or Joy Division for that. Missing Man was a step in the right direction IMO

Is this another meh mid-tempo pop-punk record like mostly everything they've done after STS?

Twisted Tongues works well to open imo.
I dunno, I'm just here loving another late-career afi record. They can just keep making records for my sake.

Not a fan.
After full listen:
Okay second half is way more interesting.

Agreed that a lot of these songs could be way better if they were just fleshed out more. Take Back from the Flesh (heh) for example, they really dropped the ball on the bridge and could've used it as an opportunity to expand on the cool electronics they had going on in that song. Instead it's just 20 seconds of Davey going ah ah ah over some fuzz bass and half baked synths and then it's right back into the chorus. Like come on at least try a bit.

A majority of this album sounds nothing like Dreamcar to me. But Dreamcar is amazing so that's nothing but a flattering comparison regardless. Davey is the only connection to Dreamcar and his performances and writing are vastly different here, outside of Dulceria maybe.
lmao, the bridge on Back From The Flesh is so good.

Dreamcar is an incredibly solid album. I would love a follow up if they're ever inclined to get together again. I really recommend checking out Born To Lie, The Preferred, Don't Let Me Love, and Show Me Mercy but the whole album is consistently great.
