Actually relistened to their first two albums recently, it's crazy how much they improved because those two albums are snoozefests

For those interested, I mixed my favorite tracks on this in with Missing Man, to create "Missing Bodies". Even created one of my best photshopped album arts for it

Missing Man is honestly one of AFI's strongest releases, really wish I felt this album was up to that calibur.

This album makes me miss the blood album lol. Missing man EP was promising but idk wtf happened here and it makes me sad.

Yeah hoping the next one is better but keeping my expectations low unfortunately.. Davey has been a bit much at their live shows recently and they have really been leaning into this new sound that I am not big on.

i remember getting into this band and being told all their new shit sucked before blood album even came out but i dig du, crash love and burials all to varying degrees so i dug it all for a while and then they dropped by far their two worst records and killed any enthusiasm i have for them

Blood and Bodies are definitely my two least favorite records from them.

Missing Man was awesome too, so very surprised they weren't able to come anywhere near the quality on the 2 full lengths surrounding it.

I don't even love the blood album at all but IMO that is at least better than this. For the most part I haven't been able to really get into an album of theirs post-STS but 1997 - 2004 AFI is still one of my favorite bands ever so I'm always trying to keep up with there shit and give it a chance.

^ I get that. Kinda like how I loved Escape the Fate's debut in 6th grade and then subjected myself to every garbage album afterwards hoping for a miracle and a glimmer of that 06 band.

twisted tongues with a stronger hook and bridge could've launched these guys back into relevancy, i stg

AFIs live performances at festivals are flacid (mostly due to boring and predictable setlists because their headlining venue shows are fire still)

That track was great… put Davey on vocals and it would make an incredible AFI track. The lyrics and vocal melody even feel very Davey. Shows how much of the songwriting jade does for the group.

The explosion at the end made me think of the instrumental ending of You Won’t Know by Brand New. Evoked a similar feeling and sound in an awesome way

i thought of it more as you can tell him and davey clearly are always working together since the melody sounds like something he would sing.

that's a sick comparison!! more of this vibe for future AFI would be a very good thing

I think that a pursue to 80' sounds like Dulceria will be great progression for em. My favourite albums are Crash Love, Blood album and Art of Drowning.

Idk, the 80s influence in a handful of tracks over the last couple albums has been nice (love dulceria) but would like to see them writing longer epics and guitar based tracks again. Miss the energy and catharsis.

id be cool with either of those things happening. im less hopeful for epics though.

i know they're post-rock/shoegaze fans. i'm still surprised that influence has never seeped into this band given how willing they are to change up their sound.
