Album Rating: 3.8
The album grew on me, there are some average tracks, but it's fun overall.

This was a fun listen for a week or 2.

I binged it for that first week, but I haven't gone back to it yet. I listened to Burials the other night, and it just felt so much more cohesive as an album experience compared to Bodies. The songs felt more fleshed out, like they had something to tell, compared to the Bodies tracks that seem to come and go without much to remember or reflect on. Bodies is fun, but I don't know if it will have much staying power in their discography for me as a full album. I can only see myself returning to certain tracks.

^ this. But I also felt this way about Blood (but I dont return to any blood tracks).

It's funny because this also made me revisit Burials and I'm feeling it way more than I did back when it first dropped.
Bodies has some good songs but so, so many forgettable ones. It's not a bad record, just very middling

i'll say it again. i think a fleshed out Bodies would have easily been the best of the post-CL era
great ideas
mid execution

Came back to this after a short break. Still loving it. This, Blood, and CL are now comfortably my top 3 afi lps.

Burials balances being cohesive and ambitious best out of all their albums, for me. This album is still so fun for me, reminds me of Danger Days for some reason

Because it's subpar compared to previous efforts?

Danger Days was different but it never didn't feel fleshed out and that will forever be my problem with this i think

Danger Days gets a lot of hate and some of it def falls into the cheesy/obnoxious/cringe category but overall, tis a real good album

Yeah It's top tier off this album. Funny how their last few albums singles were the best things on them. Except maybe "Looking Tragic", that song makes me cringe a bit.

Tied to a Tree was like...an idea or 2 away from being one of this band's best songs of all time. shit's fucking haunting and has been playing in my head consistently for the past few days
it feels like there is supposed to be some huge catharsis after the bridge.
still a great track though.

I'm between a fanboy 4 and a disappointed 3.5
i haven't given it a full spin in a while but after that i'll probably settle on one of the two

I can't give it a 4. Just can't. 3.5 basically is my fanboy rating haha - otherwise it's a 3, and it pains me to say that. The album as a whole has a lot of unrealized potential. There are snippets of greatness that end up falling flat when they don't decide to keep exploring them, but instead cut off the song. That said, I expect a lot of these songs to kill in a live setting.

I agree with Grey. Tied to a tree was close to being amazing. I think that it needs a connecting part before the chorus. Would of made it a lot more impactful. I really dig the relationship between the acoustic and davey's vocals though. Sounds neat.
