Oh hai... Still haven't listened to this yet

I can't decide how I feel about this album. There are lots of gorgeous moments spread throughout, and Down and My Baby Wants A Baby are absolute bops.
Something about the momentum of the album just feels so much. I don't mind slower songs, 'Just The Same But Brand New' is one of my faves from St. Vincent. To me it just feels like the album doesn't do *enough* with the slowness. I'll give it a few more spins of course, but I can't see all the gorgeous details I usually love picking out in slower songs. This isn't to say there aren't layers to the production, but the layers more commonly feel like vague gestures rather than featuring decisive and gripping elements. Hmm.
I like St. V's vocals quite a lot on this, though.

It has some nice tracks, whenever I felt like stopping it something interesting popped up.

If this is you at your worst, Johnny, we truly don't deserve you. I thought this was a great read.
Prolly won't listen, I just like it when her guitar goes boing

Listened to the first two tracks. I’d rather let Mitski pour garbage juice into my mouth than hear any more

Listen to the third one for shits and gigs tbh, you'll hate it but I would love to see your reaction ;]

Worst offense this album makes is being fairly boring and uneventful, but none of the songs here are bad... I think the majority are quite excellent standing on their own. Not the kind of artistic direction I think st. Vincent needs though.

Never really been a fan but I have enjoyed some of her music. I like the change of direction here but agree that some songs are a bit listless. You were just getting a lot of thoughts out in your review so don’t worry about it. I feel your review got across what you liked and didn’t like.

tbh yes, there are no outright howlers here, but I don't regret that I'll never listen to about a third of this again
now can we talk about how My Baby Wants A Baby is secretly the best song here. shit sounds like Actor's diva stepmum hitting the bottle hard

The way so many music critics are falling over themselves lauding what to me seems a rather mediocre release is honestly bizarre, especially considering the antipathetic way she interacts with the press.

marry me colton, i'll be so good to you, you won't realize I'm gone
Really not sure what to think of this album. Gonna continue listening to it, but I feel pretty underwhelmed. Enjoy some of the weird, psychedelic, funky stuff sprinkled throughout, but might enjoy this less than Masseducation. Strange Mercy and s/t are my favorite, with her first two being excellent indie albums in their own right. Wish she'd take her sound of s/t and add more guitar. Congleton >>>>>> Antonoff
