I liked this a lot tbh, more than Magma, but I do agree that something is missing

I saw a cool yt rev where this one was compared to the black album.

also not to be too mean but if you're gonna use arguments like "usually accepted as the band's classic by both fans and publications, though some may disagree", you have to also accept that an overwhelming majority of fans and critics think the link is not even top 3 gojira, which would make the comparison to RTL even weaker

its from mars to sausage for most, the early stuff is treated as a footnote... terra is 3rd for me, but then again i rarely agree with consensus [:

Its not top 3 gojira at all. Its prob in the bottom 2, so far. Lets see how it ages.

I think that goes to Magma personally

Never listened to much Gojira, but didn't find this very impressive. Mildly enjoyable, but nothing I'd listen to again. Feel like these guys just aren't really for me

I've heard in an interview that they've tried to remove "superfluous layers" with every album. They aspire to more simplicity/sobriety.

Also, Joe likes the 90s the best in terms of production.

I really enjoyed Magma (especially the 4 singles) but not crazy about this one. Will probably be a 3, and I'm sad to say this about my french bros.

Overall, I think it's a great album that suffers mainly from being the new Gojira.

Hello fellow whaleposter.

Boing

That being said, album works completely for me. It's the combination of the lyrics, the music and the evolution. Yes they made their sound more friendly, but I'm not against that. The Chant is one my fav definitely, after the first listen I had it in my head. Love their music video too. Another World's atmosphere is greatly done too.

Always thought this band is a bit too popular for what they deserve, meanwhile bands like The Ocean remain in relative obscurity
