This is definitely not surprising.
Not even going to listen to it.

Don't love this. I see what they were trying to do, and I think there are some spots that work. An Ordinary Extinction (in particular), Impermanence, even Black Lungs bridge the gap between old and new styles well. But songs like Meteor and Flight Without Feathers are so incredibly forgettable...it hurts. Wish them all the best, but this one's not for me.

I hate to say this about (almost) any band but…these guys should stop.

It's starting to grow on me. Is it like anything they've done in the past? Not at all, but they kind of have to make their own way now that their primary songwriter is gone. It's very possible they're just not capable of writing the kind of music he did. They tried on Holy Hell and it felt watered down (except for Doomsday which Tom actually wrote).

Honestly this. Holy Hell was fantastic but the lyrics and style did feel lacking in areas. Without Searle they lost a lot of the Metalcore edge that made their discography. I think they realized quickly that they needed to change up their style as they weren't capable of doing what Searle could do.

"after so many listens you’ll discover the record has a lot of good ideas being overpowered by flat and derivative ones."
This is exactly how I feel.

Why are there so many effects on Sam's voice? like ffs
Also what's the point in having Josh in the band if you're gonna write bland riffs?

Also, are these guys capable of writing lyrics beyond "let me live and die in peace" and "do you really want to live forever"?
It's always funny watching Sam condescend to fans in interviews whenever their work is called into question. The dude is the epitome of a pseud. His opinion of his own band is held to a standard that isn't even remotely recognized by the general public. He's one of the biggest douches in this "scene" as far as ego goes.

He and Telle Smith would be best friends in that case.
