Best part of the Fantano review is him confrming my belief that Portal is a good reference point for some of this. And that the album outro be underwhelming.
Wait, I watched a full Fantano review? What's wrong with me

Fantano is a good reviewer

I shit on Fartano yet I still haven’t read/heard a single review he’s done. Guess I’m just mocking the fanboys/idea of his existence. Yeah he’s probably okay, idk.

It's not how long he's been doing it, it's that he's bad at it

I remember being (probably unfairly) irritated by the Sput crowd that brought him up in virtually every new release thread when we had a perfectly good review here to discuss. I remember thinking, why is this guy important? Why does anyone care? Just another schmo with an opinion.
It just seemed weird and a little disrespectful in all honesty.

Was mostly in response to Butt, Milo, but for the most part I agree. He knows what he likes and tbh the fact he goes against the grain and doesn't sugar coat his opinions on musical sacred cows is definitely worth respecting. I just meant with regards to metal, he's often said dumb shit that hasn't gotten less frequent with time.

theyre not always perfectly good but yea

Honestly I’m fine with the dude. I disagree with him 60% of the time but he usually does a good job describing music and defending his logic. If he was really as bad as Sputnik acted like he was then someone better would have risen up by now.

"brought him up in virtually every new release thread when we had a perfectly good review here to discuss"
Doesn't seem to be as big an issue here as on rym where he'll dominate comment sections sometimes weeks after reviewing something. But he's arguably the most influential music critic on the internet outside of Pitchfork (collectively) so he's always gonna come up.

A lot of people watch him just to find new music and at the very least he’s good for that. His year end lists have lots of variety, both in genre and anywhere from mainstream to totally obscure.

I mean, I'd take a Jacquibim review first ten times out of ten, but it's interesting how much more exposure albums that he hypes recieve.

Agreed on this at least. I doubt much of his audience would've given this a second glance if he hadn't covered it. Whether or not that's a good thing depends on how receptive they are.
Milo you flatterer :3
