A benchmark for brutal death metal. This is the point where the band really came into their own, artistically and commercially.

If you don't enjoy CC and it's just not your cup of tea, that's cool. Just don't try and act like a badass saying they have no skill, which among death metal musicians, they reign near the summit. This Message Edited On 10.31.08

sure they're skilled at their instruments but their music has little substance or artistic merit

as far as brutal death goes, most of it sucks but the earlier albums by Suffocation, Cryptopsy and Deeds of Flesh have substance and artistic merit

tbh Cannibal Corpse has like 1 or 2 good songs on each of their albums and the rest is just filler and an excuse to tourThis Message Edited On 10.31.08

nah they do some different stuff on different records (early stuff is really thrashy, gallery of suicide is alot more mid-paced than the rest, wretched spawn is alot more frantic and technical, etc) but they're still uninteresting compared to other stuff in the genre

Say what you want, but the fact is, Cannibal Corpse is one of the most influential death metal bands in the history of the genre. Butchered at Birth being a prime example.

Doesn't change the fact that they're really cheesy, their instrumental skill is nothing special when you compare them to a lot of other bands in the genre (though they aren't bad either), and their image (song titles, album art, and subject matter) is borderline moronic...George Fisher is actually a pretty neat guy though from what I've seen in interviews and such...This Message Edited On 11.01.08

I can't deny the influence of this album, but Cannibal Corpse are pretty bland.

Death metal is sick, and not in a good way.
I mean, I enjoy a little bloodthirsty joke here and there, but it just seems like there's something wrong with bands like Cannibal Corpse.
If people really think listening to something called Meathook Sodomy is doing them any good though, there's something wrong with them too

Your taking of death metal seriously is so lulzy. Listen to your Chemical Romance and don't speak ever again.

In order to construct a rational argument to persuade one from choosing to listen to death metal, you must first provide better reasoning than it simply being "wrong". Just because you don't find anything appealing in death metal does not mean anything. All I know is that it is a genre of music I have grown to love more and more over time. The misguided opinion of any third party that is fueled simply by prejudice will never deter my feelings toward it.

P.S. I hang the bodies of murdered infants on the walls of my house. Fo real. And it's just because the album cover told me too.

Here's Alex Webster, a founding member and bassist for Cannibal Corpse. Sounds like a reasonable guy for me.

Start at 2:50 for if you're in a hurry.

Alex is a down to earth guy who also embodies what death metal is all about. Death metal is an art. You can hate it or like it. Choose one and leave it at that.

Best Cannibal corpse album, the vocals are the best in the band's history.

Oh, so your saying singing about rape and human butchery
is something like an aquired taste, and some people can handle it. Think what you want, but when you put yourself around that crap for too long it's gonna come back to you one day. Your not meant to dwell on anything that negative for too long. there's more than a fine line, and even if you think it's br00tal or true metal, it's still screwed up to cross it.

whoa, you're a funny guy, and so inciteful towards prejudices. cuz, you know, I thought everyone who listens to death metal does that. thanks for enlightening me, o metal guru
