to call this their magnum opus is such an understatement, seriously getting the TDAGARIM vibes specially on the lyric department, Void and Dandelion are so far my favs, i love this album

I tend not to change my review ratings as albums grow on me. It would too often require me to rewrite aspects of the review to fit the new score and that's too much work.

I never thought Seahaven could write something like this. I'm blown away.

Never heard of these guys, should I start here?

Honestly I would. Nothing against their old material but it simply doesn't live up to this or even suggest that they're capable of an album this good. If you're looking for perspective to make this sound even better, then maybe. Otherwise I'd just go with this.

The band should play the whole album on a live stream

this felt too restrained for what it is. some screams or more explosive instrumentals would have felt perfectly in place every now and then.

makes me want to just listen to shrine instead

@dangerous: would love that, never seen these guys live

@GreyShadow: I see where you're coming from - I feel like aside from Void, none of them have all that huge of eruptions. I've entirely come around to the restrained darkness though; feels like there's a ton of anger boiling beneath the surface and that tension is amazing in its own right.

I can feel this growing on me already, the atmospheres are just so rich. Production is spot-on. The Brand New comparisons are apt and I also get a good bit of early From Indian Lakes (Able Bodies-era, mostly). Dandelion, I Don't Belong Here and Lose are an amazing three-song run.

I really, really like this. I don't think it reaches the emotional heights/depths of a lot of bands it's inspired by, but musically and atmospherically this is fantastic.

that said I 100% agree with the comments that this loses steam in its back half, I find pretty much everything after Lose quite forgettable, but I'll give this a few spins to grow. But man, the first half is awesome

Glad this is growing on you. While I agree that the back half isn't as incredible as the front half, I don't think that it's weak by any stretch. Harbor has a very memorable chorus which feels earned considering the album's general disregard for the melodic hook, Living Hell has those twangy Daisy-esque guitar lines that occasionally shimmer, Bait has one of the bigger crescendos here and a very memorable outro, and the closer is shatteringly sad IMO and one of the best songs on the album.

Also, I was around when people were saying TDAG's back half didn't live up and Deja Entendu was so much better. The parallels between this and TDAG are pretty unbelievable (see review's opening paragraph), so I wouldn't be all that surprised if lots of folks changed their tune about this as well in due time. I'm not saying this is as good as TDAG, but it simply shares a lot of similarities both in atmosphere and how it came into fruition. It's sort of like a less intense TDAG.

Pahaha I mean, on the one hand TDAG's back half definitely falls off, but the thought of saying that while defending an album as ballistically frontloaded as Deja is beyond me
