i think i'm of the minority here that think the cleans here kinda ruin some of these songs too.

i prefer mikael when he uses his cleans in a far more subdued way. i listen to tracks like standstill and the chorus just grates me. in my head i hear the same chorus with his harsh vocals and it works *so* much better. if they had that with the melody as a synth or guitar line behind it it would have been sweet.

like his cleans work when used in 'ego deception' - supplementary to the song to add to its melancholy. 'the dark unbroken' has a subdued chorus too so it works. that's how they were used in construct and to a lesser extent atoma (and definitely on my favourite track on atoma - merciless fate).

this album is begging for more bite and juxtaposition and it just isn't there.

Dark Tranquillity doesn't sound like Omnium Gatherum, Omnium Gatherum sounds like Dark Tranquillity.

oh i love omnium gatherum so i'm not complaining, just took me by surprise

i don't think either band have really sounded all that alike through their career. this is the first time i've really been able to hear much of a similarity.

not claiming DT has ripped them off btw, hoping that isn't how it came across - i'm just saying the feel of the song came across as a surprise.

“This has some great solos“

Yeah I pairs this with WATV+ZD EP last night, and I must say the solos are much tastier in Moment than they have been in a while.

so my verdict on this right now is that it's better than Atoma and Void, but I'm not sure if it beats Construct.

Went back and listened to damage done today. The band was at the top of their game then for sure. A little heavier and more energetic. Also, I never realized how much his vocals have changed. His growls were a little lower pitch and sound a lot more full than they do now

He had trouble with his voice and damaged it around the DD era, according to interviews. He changed his technique around the time of Character, I believe.

This is probably the best they've sounded since the Fiction/Character era, but it's still a far cry from where they used to be.

I much prefer his vocals now, Damage Done is my least favorite vocal performance he's done actually

This has grown on me immensely, makes me sad I was so negative after hearing the singles. I think it could’ve been a little more bold but it’s still a very good album.

Also added the bonus tracks into the mix, Silence As a Force being track 6 and Time In Relativity being track 13. I actually think it helps the flow of the album a lot despite making it a few minutes longer

It looks like the reactions here are generally positive, even if a few people are a little bit disappointed by the 'wasted potential' of having two high class guitarists. For me, I definitely like this. It's on the low-end of the post-Projector albums, but that's only because most of them are so damn good.

Honestly there aren't many moments that I found to be memorable, even after 10+ listens. I'm taking a breather from it and will return later, but it just felt a bit bland and like the bands on autopilot

It's not innovative and there's no individual performance that will make you sit up and take notice. They focused entirely on crafting songs and creating moods, which I would say they haven't really done to this extent since Projector.

I think Construct does that about the same tbh, if not better

Pretty tempted to slap a 2.5 on this one tbh, which would be the first one in their discog. The whole second half has barely one single interesting riff. Just seems waaaay too safe for DT standards, even more so than their previous couple of albums
