This sounds like Berninger re-visiting the National's long forgotten debut album lmoa.

Absolutely love the production and playing on this, really manages to be intoxicating and warm/inviting without slipping into boring imo

I agree. I sort of wish this was the next National album instead of I Am Easy to Find

Yeah, I agree - going forward keep the Devendorfs and allow the twins to do soundtrack work etc

I think this album and the twins' production work lately poses an interesting question as to the direction of the next National album. Radiohead managed to bring each member's interests and sounds together for AMSP after years of solo projects and soundtrack work, I wouldn't be surprised if The National could do it too.

Tuna, if 'I Am Easy to Find' was the teaser to this new era of the band's work I'm not expecting much

I like that album more than most but wasn't that kind of a 'cutting room floor' album from the SWB sessions, pumped up with an accompanying film and some extra tracks to make it more of a full project? I reckon the next one will be something different

If that's the case then they should have billed it as a B sides compilation. Selling it as an LP guaranteed that it'd never meet expectations.
