Oligocene gives me strong Ecco the Dolphin vibes and it rules

I’m gonna have to listen for that next time, I remember the soundtrack to that game being eerie af. It really spooked me as a kid, must’ve struck me as somewhat ominous. Despite having this recollection I have no clue what you’re referencing so I’m intrigued to check.

"Not a fan when bands put their most grand statement near the beginning of the album"
does it help to think of it being the climax around the 70% mark when the two parts are taken together, and the rest as falling action/resolution?

not really because i don't think it's structured very well as a double album, it just peters out whereas phan I keeps the momentum going throughout its runtime.

@Demon it just gives off that feel of the deep, cold open ocean and that’s very much the vibe I get playing Ecco

I mean, fair. the structure is part of why I have this a full point below Phan I.

tbf even if you take this as a stand-alone album, the opening duo take up almost half the album’s runtime anyway, the end of Jurassic isn’t particularly early on using that perspective.

yeah but i don't like the opening track all that much either

There's no good way to say this...I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done, sir.

i can see where Noctus is coming from, considering this has grown off me some upon repeat listens. but it's still pretty good, albeit inferior to the Phan 1

Triassic is fucking bombastic
Eocene's intro sounds like that death note song
Anyway I listened to this disc a lot and I think Miocene and Holocene are both super good tracks and I don't mind Pleistocene at all
but yeah Palaeocene/Eocene/Oligocene is definitely not the best trypthic to follow Jurassic

Bump down, only two songs about the dinosaur era is disappointing considering the album was hyped up to be the "dino album", album is front loaded with the best songs, and Triassic doesnt even really touch anything on Phan I imo. Imagine if Ghost Reveries by Opeth had Ghost of Perdition and then a bunch of 4 minute songs after it, that is what this album is like, a total anti climax as far as I am concerned, Phan I is much better than this in many ways

I'm on board with that

Pleistocene tho?
It does sag a little in the middle, but the highs are irresistible and elevate it beyond part 1, which was marginally more consistent yet less interesting overall.

this is more interesting and varied to me as part 1

Just makes me miss Breach even more.

Been spinning this album for 4 hours straight, and I can't get over Holocene; that's some real groovy/moody finish to a great album. The base line is soooo to my liking
