I agree that some of the middle tracks are a bit of a slump but hard disagree on the opener. Those goofy ass choirs are so much fun and the grandeur of the movements remind me of my favorite tracks from Time. The horn blasts/choirs/sound design stuff is jarring in places but I think that's more a mixing issue than a compositional one.

Dream of Stone and Tick Tock did that approach wonderfully, whereas Space Cowboy is similar to latter-era Dream Theater where it's self-indulgent and disjointed in places. It's not terrible and I like some parts, like the first four minutes, but I really like this band so it's just disappointing to hear them pursue this less intelligent route.

I feel Gazpacho is one of the most unlames. And this album feels like it's going to take quite a few spins to gather. I'm at about a 4 with this right now.

Depends what you're looking for in their sound. I think they've been consistently awesome.

Imagine comparing a folky atmospheric art rock band to noodly guitar wank like Dream Theater.

I can get behind the DT comparison insofar as the the continuity in that track is janky af - don't think it should be taken beyond that

Love this, reminded me of Demon but with a lighter touch. The choirs could be toned down a bit, but I didn't mind them much. Something about the album's alluring, magical atmosphere draws me in, just like its cover. I'm not sure what the story was about this time, though, need to read the lyrics.

This seems like a perfect exploration/extension of their sound. Lovin' it

The pacing on "Space Cowboy" felt extremely poor but after that it's as smooth of a ride as you can get, even if it's kinda cheesy at times (neo-prog's involved, whadaya expect). "Sapien" is a fantastic closer that handily outdoes its bookend counterpart.
