Does anyone know which film Fashion Tips Baby refers to? I have most of the others figured out, but this one has me really stuck.

Honestly, FBTMOF and FB should have completely different band pages. They got so shitty right when they changed their name.

This album reminds me of being an angsty 9th grader.

I always thought that album got pretty weak after the first few tracks, I haven't heard it in forever though so I'll have to jam it again.

Hopefully this is as good as Open Mouth, will check in a bit

every band's debut album is their best album, this band is not exception to that rule

It's good but it's no TAOM.
The most glaring flaw relates to the vocals. Not the quality... it's just that sometimes the harsh vocals are hardly comprehensible (having the lyrics in front doesn't help much) and this is worse when they both sing together. It becomes such a mess. I know it's supposed to sound chaotic and shit but here it doesn't work very well.

"every band's debut album is their best album, this band is not exception to that rule "
There are so many exceptions to that rule that its not true in any way at all
And na art damage and taom outshine this easy. The cleans on this are weak and the songwriting is pretty uninspired

Listened to this from start to finish last night with the moonlight shining over the bay for the first time in, well, probably only months. But it still blows my mind, every single time. I was into a lot of other post-hardcore bands at this time like Circle Takes the Square, Number 12 Looks Like You, Botch, etc and still to this day nothing quite sounds like this IMO. And the screaming vocals are SO FUCKING GOOD.
I really love their two albums after this (let's not talk about their last one), but to me they never captured their energy like this one, if I had to pick 5 albums to die on a desert island with, this is one of them.

It's not that it was a bad album, it's just that it was such a radical departure from everything before it. I'll revisit it eventually but at the time I was very disappointed, it was just so different from the band I had adored for years at that point.
I wonder what these guys are up to right now. I know they teased some new material a few years back but there's been no word or sign of anything since.

Adam really shines on the last album, I love all of his work, especially Orbs.

fear, there was a podcast a year ago now or a couple where they talked about how they were planning new material, but apparently with orbs and all human and davids bands (and i think the drummer was in norma jean for a bit not sure now) they are all too busy
