I was just listening to it while making breakfast, forgot how fun Round House and Knife Fight were

TBH The Fall of Troy will always be Doppelganger to me, have never really been able to get into their other work, and so this unfortunately fell flat for me.

The new stuff gives me hope that their next album is going to be a proper return to form. Hell, I'd even settle for something like Manipulator.
|

Manipulator rules, it just has a few not so great tracks on it.

"The Dark Trail", "Semi-Fiction", and "Sledgehammer" are absolutely incredible. The end of Sledgehammer in particular is so a fucking ripper.

Yea when they closed with sledgehammer last time I saw them, I was ready to get in the pit and that’s something I’m never really into lol.

I've ripped on Manipulator but it's grown on me a lot over the years. The Dark Trail and Oh the Casino are soooo sooooooo jammy.

I still remember when I first heard "Shhhhhh if you're quiet I'll show you a dinosaur" back when I was in high school and thinking that was the craziest thing ever.

i like this, Round House and Borborygmi are actually pretty cool. for better or worse these guys never went straight down the shitter, just peaked way too early

^That and I think they burned themselves out. Trying to replicate something like Doppleganger on a major label schedule can't be easy and I imagine they just needed some time away from that pressure.

probably some truth there. i enjoyed Manipulator, but i lost faith after In the Unlikely Event. another stab at something more progressive minded like ghostship/phantom would be very interesting to hear.

Phantom on the Horizon is probably my favorite of theirs.

1. the re-recording of the 30 years war was a genius decision
2. the new materials are invincible
3. i enjoy Thomas Erak's "new" voice completely
Conclusion: this record is almost perfect
