Solid album after two listens.
Every Haken album always feels like it's missing something though, and it's hard for me to quantify.

i should definitely listen to the 2 albums back to back. honestly, minus Prosthetic having a weak chorus, loved all of this. better than Vector O.O

Album is great, but it lacks the intricate melodies of their earlier albums. I still maintain that The Mountain is their peak (pun not intended).

Ross gets some unjust backlash, tbh. His voice is Haken signature. The countermelodies on the first half of Carpusel, though, really annoy me.

Ross has a distinct sound, that's true, and being able to perform vocals to such complex music is a testament to his talent, but overall I don't think he is as good as a vocalist as his peers are. And every time I hear the increased pitch correction in newer releases ... it's a pet peeve of mine.

Agree that the vocals are the weakest point of Haken, but sometimes they fit really nicely. My main gripe is that it really doesn't sound like he means what he sings...

Exactly! That's the first thing I noticed when I listened to The Mountain tbh. I don't feel this way about Visions though

Geez, i'm unable to listen to music for the next couple days so this has to wait. I've heard ppl describing this as more aggressive than their previous releases which had me wondering. I've heard 'The Strain' so far which kind of fell into the same category as 'Canary Yellow' for me.
