i haven't heard anything since The Agent Intellect so I missed that one. I'd need to refresh my memory to decide if i like this better than Agent or not. But this is cool and I always like their art

Relatives seems recorded in one take, the album and its energy are marvelous imo

Yeah, you'd do yourself a disservice by missing out on Relatives in Descent. It's definitely their best for me, as I haven't heard this yet.

As per usual their production and mastering make it rather unenjoyable to listen to from a sound quality perspective.

Usual? I think the production on their records is usually great. I mean the drums are crystal clear and the guitars are usually vivid/lush to my ear.

I'm not a huge fan of Relatives and was underwhelmed by this on first spin but a couple listens later it's growing on me.

Is it just me being bad at recognizing accents or does the singer sound terribly British at times?

They sound like a British band to me at times. It makes me think of peaky blinders lmao

Yeah post-punk in general is a very British thing but I was just talking about the accent.

can't be a post-punk band if the one mofo singing don't have no British accent

I love "The Aphorist". The Ian Cohen diss is hilarious.
We're all mowing esoteric patterns in the grass
A fast and fading echo of ancient Nazca Man
Who carved his lines upon the desert floor
In hopes to catch the eye of some forgotten god...

this is a “first 3 songs are fine then i’m bored” kinda band usually but i’ll check this

I think they are really asserting their uniqueness in the modern rock/post-punk scene lately. Relatives in Descent was stellar and even after a few years I feel the need to return to it over and over. This has some true bangers and fantastic ballads, but a lot of the songs I want to revisit more for the lyrics and their chronology in the album.
