Honestly I don't even know myself; admittedly haven't listened to nearly enough of it to gauge an overall feeling on the genre, but am always eager to start exploring new territory.

@Potts: Re the Patrick Holland album - So if were just tracks 2 through 6, my rating would be a 3.5, quite possibly a 4.0 with time. I was honestly dreading it after the opening track, found it boring as fuck, even just barely over two minutes long. However, everything thereafter, aside from the closer (which is almost as boring as the opener) was good to great. 'Diaked' and 'Please, Let Me Sleep' were probably my favorites, but obviously this is the kind of album that needs to be listened to from start to finish, which is why I find the bookends bothersome. Even still I could see it going up to a 3.5 with time. Thanks for the rec. Sufficiently moist.

I wouldn't call the bookends the highlights either but as far as ambient goes I think they are quite beautiful and charming, plus rather inconsequentially short. I think they introduce/'outroduce' the album and it's atmosphere nicely but I totally get your perspective. The meat of the album is really tracks 2-6. But even with the bookends it's a really unique ambient house/chillwave hybrid, one of those albums that just really doesn't sound like anything else, at least to an ear that is attuned to the genres.

Dialed is soooooo good

That's a fair assessment and honestly probably more indicative of my relative inexperience with the genre(s) than an actual fault of the album itself. Will listen to it again soon, though, and you're right, the intro/outro are so comparatively short that they're essentially inconsequential when reflected against the whole. Could definitely see it going up to a 3.5 next time.
Also willing to take any other similar chill/vaporwave recs you might have because my breadth in that subgenre is nonexistent, but I could totally see myself digging it.

Five more rating until this bad boy is eligible for the charts.
Certified greatness awaits.

That album is kind of a rather ambiguous intersection between ambient house and chillwave with percussion that I don't feel is particularly indicative of either subgenre so it's a tricky one to pin down, but here are a couple low-key + relatively analog releases from this year that I've enjoyed:
DJ Python - Mas Amable
Edyth - Xian
And here are a few all time favs that may be loosely related, but that I consider to fall within a similar sphere of complete and utter irreplicability within the realms of electronic, but on a larger scale:
Leon Vynehall - Nothing Is Still
Lapalux - Amnioverse
Stimming - Alpe Lusia
Yoko Duo - Behaving Like A Widower
You'll be hard-pressed to find any proper chillwave or vaporwave very reminiscent of that Patrick Holland album so this is a better/more appropriate angle to look at it from imo.

Atta boy, Dewi.
Thanks for the recs, Potts. Have 'em queued up and will be listening over the next couple of days. I thought I'd heard the Lapalux album before (the cover even looked very familiar) but I don't have a rating for it here or on RYM, so I must've passed it up. Better late than never!

np
so i put this on earlier today and 5 years ago me would have insta-5'd this
it's pretentious, it's definitely maximalist, it's also definitely a couple 'eons' too long, but it's also really cool and really good

I wiiiish it had an analogue release. The artwork is just as incredible as the album imo, I might even cave and puck up the 3CD version just to have it.

They will probably press more if this gains any traction but who knows if that’ll happen.

Really hope it can. I think the material is incredible and so amazingly unique - from an accessibility standpoint its just a shame its by far strongest as a cohesive piece, or at least playing each phase through as one.
