One more note, this has Bring Me The Horizon's Amo vibes all over it. Unpopular opinion: that's a good album.

This album made me smile a few times... I like how it's all over the place.

Amo is absolutely the better album! This album is absolutely all over the place, and in this case it's not the worst thing ever.

“Honey, it's in the stars

And you're my everything from here to Mars

And every word I say I truly mean

Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear

Cause there's no one like you on Earth

That can be my universe”

Its sentimental... doesn't need to be poetic genius to have value

Coheed is my favorite band but Claudio's lyrics have been horrendous for a decade now. I like to pretend TCBTS doesn't exist.

afterman 1 had a few serviceable lyrics

I agree. Ascension is the best thing they've done since Good Apollo 1. I hate half of Descension, can barely listen to TCBTS, and Vaxis is decent but hampered by the lyrics on the songs I do like.

yeah, most of the Vaxis lyrics I can remember aren't amazing. thought the t/t was p quotable and It Walks Among Us held up nicely in delivery though

Claudio made a conscious decision to make his lyrics more straightforward because he wanted them to be more relatable but I think it really hurt the music as a whole. The somewhat cryptic poetic style worked so perfectly for their sound and it's a big reason why I love their first three albums so much.

Compare lines like "still recorded were the words that dribbled out his kiss" and "parasitic cyst, I can't stand to watch / it's coming up and out of your chest" to "run, run, run, run, run like a son of a gun!" Yikes.

If it weren't for the terrible terrible lyrics, "Wow, I Hate This Song" wouldn't be all that bad tbh
