Things I Will Only Listen To Once

By Bloodshy

Only once, if even a half, not even at my epitaph:

Max Richter: Vivaldi Recomposed By Max Richter The Audio Commentary

Only once shall it breach my path, before igniting primal wrath:

Calling my mom a bitch

Only once because thats enough, any more of this boring stuff:

Nightwish - Human 2 Nature

They put a lot of effort in this pile of garbage. Funny.

I listened to the first disc this morning while just kind of laying in bed. The only thing that stands out is just how wasted Floor is for the second time. Seriously, this album feels like it would have been better suited for Anette. Maybe they should have her on the studio albums and Floor can do all the live stuff with her own style.

Oh, this band was so off my radar i didn't even know disc II would be instrumentals only. I'm on the fence of giving this a second spin rn. Floors vocals is a plus, but composition-wise anything else sounds a bit auto-pilot at this point and i think that one-dimensional drumming just adds to that. I dunno, maybe i'm just over this band.

No... I forgot to mention how much their original drummer is sorely missed. This guy has no energy or flair.

Man, Jukka was a beast of his own.

Opening song started off pretty nice, strangely even getting some Zelda vibes from it. Floors vocal harmonies really drew me in on this one - until it turned into a less energetic version of 'Noise' as the rest of the band comes in. I just find their sound very stagnant. Having said all that, 'The Green' is a very pleasant work of music.

They're both bland, imo. Tuomas is complacent and Floor isn't enough to offset that.

Floor could be enough to offset that if she was allowed more creative freedom. Look at the way she improved the songs she sings in concert. Her problem is that she has never been in a top-tier band, IMO. Nightwish used to be, but it feels like they've lost their fire.

You might have a point. I've always preferred Tarja in studio and Floor on stage with a couple of exceptions. Floor has a much greater presence when she's got breathing room, so to speak.

I've always preferred Anette in the studio, and it's a toss-up for live. Floor has the better command of the songs, but Tarja was the more entertaining performer.

I never hated Anette.. Stylistically, I prefer the operatic take, but Anette had good range for what they were doing at the time. Wish they gave her another album to shake the growing pains.

The music on the two albums she was on is some of Nightwish's best, IMO.

If you see how Kai played with Wintersun it’s obvious he could drum circles around Jukka. But in Nightwish he just keeps his head down and plays as predictably and inoffensively as possible. Everyone’s gotta pay the bills though.

Yeah I've always thought Kai was the better drummer, but Jukka had a presence about him that was unmatched.

They're so much more reserved now. After finally meeting them in 2018 they are so laid back and super nice. I'll always adore Floor because aside from Tuomas, she was the most excited to meet me after I told her how much I've always enjoyed her work. I think that flowed into their music. I also think that Troy has more influence now than what we see and that has shown in the music. If anyone listened to Auri's self titled debut (band with Tuomas, his wife Johanna, and Troy), this album has the same feel at times. That's where the uninteresting stuff happens because I enjoyed the Auri album because I knew it wasn't going to be a Nightwish one. I didn't want Auri in my Nightwish album.

As a buddy of mine once said, They've reached that "We're just so happy to be together, doing what we love" stage in their careers. Which.. is great. I mean, good for them.

I've always wanted nightwish to be more experimental, so I ought to like this.

Unfortunately, I don't. Sounds really boring.
