“The big dick part in cloud cascade is goated to eternity
Think a big reason why this is kinda hittin a bit more is the lead work”
Oh my bad, Steak has already been in here doing the Lord’s work and I’m late. I’ll just let him continue

I cannot believe you think the vocals are worse on here.
This is 10x the album Heavener is.

I don't get it.
In any case, his vocals pale in comparison to Ben's.
And Heavener is so dull.

What specifically do you guys think are "good" metalcore cleans? Because personally, I prefer choruses being sung in a higher register, and cleans in verses being used sparingly. Mid-range range singing in metalcore during choruses and also especially during all of the verses just does absolutely nothing for me. Every single clean part on this album is memorable to me because I feel like Marcus put everything into those parts (including the entirety of Fireside, which is mostly all cleans). The cleans on Heavener are used way too often and the enthusiasm is just not there. There aren't any "SHAPESHIFTER, NO COLOR LOOKS LIKE YOU, WORLD TURNING GREY" moments on Heavener, the shit that gives you goosebumps.

I am never going to give a single shit if a vocalist can't emulate how they sound on their recordings live. Matteo from Novelists never sounded nearly as good in the live videos I've seen as he does in the studio (bro sounded like butter on Noir god damn), but at the end of the day, recorded music is how we listen to our music on a regular basis.

he sounds like he's way out of his range lol he's completely forcing those notes and they sound uncomfortable for him in a way that isnt fairly pleasant to listen to half the time. i love me some high vox as erra's self titled is my bible so the range itself is not really the problem. he's even going for a lot of those same notes on heavener (the highest note here is only a whole step above heavener's), he can just hit them way more comfortably now
i dont think theyre like a dealbreaker or anything i can mostly stomach them but theyre galaxies apart from heaveners. dude is incredible live now too saw them three times last year and each time they sharpened up more

It's not unpleasant to me, but I get what you're saying.
The songs on Heavener are more representative of his natural vocal range which is likely why he sounds better now (not to discredit any natural improvement of his singing).

This. This is also what’s bad about metalcore cleans in general 75% of the time.
“galaxies apart from heavener” [2]

Fair to say that I have nearly the opposite view of what makes for good metalcore cleans from you two.

honestly it j goes for singing in general for me lol, despite somehow jamming a comical and borderline embarrassing amount of chiodos in undergrad

Fair point lol, I just meant it happens an unreasonable amount specifically in core

"What specifically do you guys think are "good" metalcore cleans?"
Night Verses does cleans perfectly. Static Dress and Loathe are other good examples too.
Deftones worship bands got it right cus all you really need to do is croon a lil bit and that shit works like magic. Just hop on the track and rip off Chino for a few seconds and get the fuck outta the way and you've pretty much got me sold.

I'm not tryna hear anyone go in a higher register ever unless you're like the dude from Hail The Sun or if you can finesse it just the right way like how Jesse used to do on old Erra songs.
