"bm band says they’re willing to work with some of the most acclaimed people in the scene, stop the presses

though famine seems more than a little unstable so I guess work with him at your own risk to your health and sanity"

roman saenko might be defensible with this logic, but you can't draw that conclusion from Famine. You're not getting any cred from working with that piece of shit and everyone knows he's a piece of shit.

Actually no, this logic doesn't work at all. Neither of those people are rich and famous guys that are going to elevate your band's name significantly. They clearly don't care about the character of people they work with. Not a crime, but it says something about them.

Who goes into BM for the money or fame? Obviously working with them would be for the creative collab

That's kind of my point. If you're not doing it because it's going to change everything for you then I don't get it. Like working with Famine is a deeply unprincipled, immoral thing to do unless you're already some alt right psycho, that's not really debatable.

They're not the first people in an artistic industry to disregard principles for some other gain so I'm not that interested in "canceling" them over it, but it's an important thing to note rather than ignore.

But they havent actually worked with these sketch dudes right? Hope they dont but a comment shouldn't be condemnation. Are we just assuming they understand the full implications?

I mean Niege was in Peste Noire for a while and now he's making bleep bloop metal with Breaking Benjamin riffs so Famine doesn't automatically turn those he works with into a member of M8L8TH

"Hope they dont but a comment shouldn't be condemnation. Are we just assuming they understand the full implications?"

A comment can be a lot of things, there can obviously be comments and comments in certain contexts that are worth condemnation. I certainly will assume they know who Famine is considering it's public knowledge and they know him well enough to want to work with him. As I'm not a mind reader, I can't ever know if they mysteriously admire Famine's work and simultaneously have no idea of his character, especially when his character is on display in Peste Noire's newer output.

"I mean Niege was in Peste Noire for a while and now he's making bleep bloop metal with Breaking Benjamin riffs so Famine doesn't automatically turn those he works with into a member of M8L8TH"

Sure but I don't think I implied that. It's not about them turning into nazis after working with him, it's that they seem comfortable potentially working with someone of indefensible character. Then there's the fact that most people in the world simply wouldn't be willing to work/interact with a militant racist because most people fall into more moderate political spaces (and fascism is incompatible with everything except fascism/some closely adjacent stuff). The idea that people can be friends with another person despite political differences is true, but only so far, it doesn't actually work when you take a liberal and a fascist for example. Theoretically they could be in that hyper small minority that could genuinely do that, but it's impossible to assume that.

But again, since there doesn't seem to be any evidence that they're full blown nazis or something, I don't care too much. Working with Famine was only a passing comment anyway rather than reality.

Seems to me that taking a moral stand on BM artists would require not listening to the majority of classic albums unfortunately

Yeah for some people it is. My line is monetary support, what people listen to in their private time is their business.

Not like every BM classic is tainted though. Darkthrone tend to get a pass because they've disavowed the dumb aryan black metal Transylvanian Hunger thing. Immortal are fine. Pretty much all the first wave stuff is fine. There's a rampant reactionary tendency in the genre, but I'd say proper right wing extremism is a minority.

I feel like I've read Game's points a few other times on other threads, this is starting to pull off some Deja vu like flash backs - although the same pont seems perfectly valid within its own. .

I have read in many threads here about people saying that they refuse to financially support controversial artists, yet still enjoy their music.

It is not like the artists use that money to buy weapons and go on a killing spree. Making music in a niche market (like BM) is difficult enough even without all this.

There world is full with racist people, but that doesn't meaan that they shouldn't earn money.

Anyway, the album kicks ass.
