"New album is not what I was expecting. It's good, but half the songs could be by a different band."

Yeah, incredible sophomore album. More lyricism, different approach to songwriting, awesome stuff. And I love "Dogrel" too.

Oh nice, I enjoyed this but wasn’t enamored of it so might have skipped the new one but it’s a dry release week otherwise and heading it’s better has me interested!

think you'll prefer it - it's more melancholic indie rock than punk Bones

for me they communicate real soul -why I rate it well ahead of other great records this year by Protomartyr, Bambara, etc etc

“Roy’s Tune” was my fave off this so I def enjoyed their more melancholic side more.

at the moment I have it 5'd and its my AOTY - hopefully it keeps the rating

its a good bit ahead of my 2nd and 3rd place candidates right now - the Blake Mills and the Honey Harper

if you like the vocals on the debut, esp on the slower songs, then I see no obstacle to you warming to this one at least a bit more - definitely more depth to the arrangements/instrumentation

Great follow up. I think their best is yet to come mind, and I think Hero’s Dream is better for having been released so soon after the debut

I really want to like this band, on paper this is right up my alley.. but I just don’t get the hype for this. It just sounds so passionless.

Try the new one, I think his vocals have more in the way of dynamism this go around

First impression on the new one - it’s very good, almost definitely better than this. Didn’t blow my mind though, unlikely to top the Bambara or Protomartyr as far as 2020 post-punk goes.

I really like the new one but the lead singer repeating the same thing for the 125896479th time gets old v v quick

his lyrics and phrasing are great though

did bump 'Dogrel' to a 4.5 now with the hindsight of now hearing how they've proven themselves here - but still think the new one is superior

Is it weird that in terms of pure enjoyment I'd much rather listen to this band than Joy Division?

First album rating ever, I'll give them an honest 4.5. I heard them live in Philadelphia (w/Pottery) and didn't want to listen to anything else for the next few days. Fascinating lyrics (give "Roy's Tune" or "The Lotts" a few tries) and solid playing by the band. Ordered the new album ("Hero's Death") which already sounds very promising.
