from a songwriting angle two way mirror is far and away the best song here. gotta do more of that. wouldn't mind one bit if this band chose to "sell out"

Two Way Mirror, Screaming and Heavy is the head are fantastic

what is this trend of messy songwriting among newer metalcore bands? enjoyable album for what it is, but the band should just ditch the dissonant chugging and go full heavy-gaze. screaming is the best song here.

if you think metalcore hadn't been disjointed and jamming different sections into one song for 25 years by now then you're mistaken

I saw that one coming. I'm not huge on metalcore but the metalcore bands I do like flesh out sections and the songs have a groove to them, at least to my ears. Even a newer band like Vein for example does this style way better than this band.

idk what style they do better when each of them have different influences. vein's more on converge/slipknot than these guys are on djent-tones.
you're right on the "fleshing out" part. bet this all translate better live anyway.

I just mean the songs with the dissonant, chuggy metalcore styles, not the gazey songs. but hell, even untitled by vein is better than everything here, dare I say lol.

I think it's rare how listenable Loathe have made the really spastic songs on here. I'd argue that's a talent of theirs, not pure chance. It's a similar talent Dillinger had and Norma Jean has, for example. The only song that really threw me at first was "Broken Vision Rhythm". I look at other bands doing similar things, such as Code Orange, and their latest singles sound just clumsy in comparison. I think what separates Loathe from other bands is they can construct softer, more melodic songs just as well, if not better than their heavier tracks.

Hoping to God here Two-Way Mirror is not the best Deftones track of the year. I admit that one is pretty perfect though.
