I don’t wanna get too into the details of those accusations but apparently all he did is use his position in a band to get with a girl which I guess could be kinda shady depending on the context but that’s also what every guy in every band ever does. It’s not like he assaulted anyone or anything.
This is over simplifying it but I agree he didn't actually do anything particularly "bad", he was probably a bit emotionally manipulative but not in a way that millions of other guys haven't. It's a complicated story nonetheless, I def encourage anybody interested to read that p4k article chan posted.

the new yorker article gives more details, like i say in the review, about the woman who made the accusation. from what i can tell, evan entered a relationship with one of pinegrove's crew members. because of his position in the band and her position as an employee of that band, she saw him as having an inordinate amount of sway over the dynamics of their relationship, which i'm sure is true. it seems like he wasn't willing to view it in those terms, at least until the whole thing blew up.
one of the reasons i say that the new yorker article tries to be an expose instead of a profile is that, even though he cites the pitchfork article, the author completely ignores the way the news broke, with the woman from punktalks basically betraying the accuser's trust and trying to take down pinegrove and promote her business at the same time.

Haven't read the NY article so can't give thoughts on it, but yeah I was really disturbed by all the details about the punktalks woman; basically the whole thing just got blown way out of proportion.

Evan accused himself preemptively and inflated the situation beyond what was needed with that confessional post. The dedication to softboi male feminism is extremely on brand though.

The fuck is "softboi male feminism"? And how is it on brand?

yeah i'm not sure what that's about. it seems pretty obvious that evan knew that punktalks would make things worse for him if he didn't make a preemptive statement, so that's why he did it

"The Alarmist" is really good.
Interesting that they seem to be leaning harder on country and less on emo with each release.

This is good, but I definitely prefer Skylight. Really enjoying how consistent this is, though.

Damn you weren’t lying about tougher ratings in 2020
This would be a sowing 4 if not 4.5 in 2019
