I'm not quite sure what that comment even means, but watch the first three minutes of this (No Babymetal singing at all during that time, don't worry), to see what I mean.

"watch the first three minutes of this (No Babymetal singing at all during that time, don't worry)"

The fact that you even have to say that shows the problem. The intro's pretty cool but the actual song itself is complete ass. Compared to the likes of Light Bringer (who are from the same country and also mixed J-pop with metal), they're an absolute farce.

"At the end of the day, I guess the novelty appeal is the biggest draw for both regardless"

This.

I said that because it was clear you didn't like the vocals, but in general it's not a problem. I've never heard Light Bringer, but I will check them out. There are a ton of people that really like Babymetal, and that song isn't their best but it's still good, IMO. The novelty appeal (or 'new original sound' would work, too) is definitely the biggest draw for both bands. Agreed.

You'd most likely love Genesis so check that album out first.

Cool. Thanks.

Edit: Apple Music doesn't have it, so I'll have to do some digging.

Checked out Light Bringer. Definitely a more streamlined metal sound compared to this or even Babymetal, but I did like it.

Is Light Bringer closer to this or Babymetal? (more aggressive and kitschy, or more technical?) I don't necessarily feel like expending the time/effort to check them out but Poppy as had surprising staying power for me thus far so it might be worth delving further into these pop/metal hybrid types.

There's not really much pop in Light Bringer's metal. Light Bringer and Babymetal share a love of Power Metal, not pop. Check out the album "Clarity" by Passcode for something more similar.

I’m hooked on that album. I like the harsh vocals they use from time to time, and the bass is super prominent, which I like.

They've made better music than either of them ever could so there's that.
